I'm having the same problem. I tried the above deleting bf2 folder. I also tried updating punkbuster and reinstalling 3 times. I have run out of ideas. Pity as I play a lot and now will have to buy a different game.

make sure you also delete the profiles folder located in 'my docs'

Yah it's kinda late for that cause I already reinstalled. Working fine after this reinstall

Yeah, that didn't work, i'm reinstalling right now.

You will if the game still doesn't start.

You could try deleting the Battlefield 2 folder in My Documents (Documents if you have Vista).
If the game starts it will be like a new install, so you will need to login and set up everything, so make sure you have your password and email.

I use Vista. If I delete the folder, I won't have to reinstall, right?

Yeah, I just downloaded the 1.41 and now it won't start. It starts as the normal bf2 screen, looks like everything is fine, and then it stops black screen and just goes back to my desktop like I never even tried to start BF2.

EDIT: Oh yah and I just got BF2 after like a year of it sitting around my house because it wouldn't install right. Anybody know what the problem is?
