Why do people have to get rid of ads?

I see this sticky post up there just about ads, and I don't really understand the reason for it.
I've been playing for quite a while and the first time I've ever noticed that there's an ad for Inter in Fall of Berlin was after I saw the screenshot on a website. I mean, do you even notice these stuffs when you play? I've been playing some titan maps lately and I have never noticed that there's an I am Legend Blue-ray and HD-DVD add in my base! yes I'm planning to get on and look at it like, now.
well, I don't think it's worth it to go through all those steps trying to get rid of the ads, I actually like them cause the Intell ad looked good on that building, better than what was on it just after the game released...
I'm not saying it's stupid to get rid of them, just wanna know why would anybody do that...

lol privacy,people should not ever use bank cards or credit cards cause they contain personal information, people shouldn't get telephone at all cause others would be able to find you through a phone book right? and you shouldn't get online cause people can know where you are from your IP. people also should cover their faces and never go home cause people will know how you look and where you live...... this privacy thing is just getting stupid these days.

Can you get my IP right now just by looking at this post? No you can't unless you're an admin on this site.

Can you use my IP to look up my geographical location in order to target advertisements to me while I play a game that I already paid for? No, you can't.

That is why some people choose to block the ads. Personally, I really don't care because if they ever start adding different products it gives the maps a more "real" look to have the ads plastered up there.

Privacy is an important part of a free society. To say that "this privacy thing is getting stupid" in a time when personal liberties are vanishing (in the US at least) is akin to saying "it's raining really hard" in the middle of a hot, sunny, summer day. The time to be concerned about privacy is the time when you still have it. Once the politicians (a bit melodramatic maybe? lol) take it away, you will have a much harder time getting it back.

yeah I like the ads cause it does make the map look more real, and I don't care if it targeted to me based on my "stolen personal information" or not, I'll buy the Intel chips even if I havn't seen that ad, and I won't buy any blue-ray or HD-DVDs even if the map is made of only one texture, the I am Legend ad.

How's it a privacy issue? I'm pretty sure EA don't use like spyware to do it. They just post up ads that they'd get money from sponsors for. Unless I'm incredibly misinformed, which I seem to be.

Some ads are relatively funny like the BF:BC one at the moment - although it looks very ugly.

I liked when you could put in your own ads. It kind of added a little flavor to the maps.

I honestly don't care about the ads, I'm too busy PLAYING the game to stop and look at them.
Plus, most of them are in-obstrusive (like the Intel ones). You see ads everywhere on the internet, including TGN, as well as when you drive down a street.

But seriously: this debate went on when the game was first released well over a year ago. You're a bit late.
