Problem with BF2 after not playing for 6 months

I bought a new computer and I can remember having this problem the first time I installed BF2 to my original computer. My problem is after installing the game, it shows the first screen for a split second, then goes black, then right back to my desktop like I never even tried to start the game. I have the original DVD if that makes a difference. I downloaded the newest full patch and it has not helped the problem at all. Any ideas???

Have you tried updating your graphics drivers and or reinstalling them?

Go to My Documents/Battlefield 2/mods/bf2/cache/ and delete the folder in there.
Go to My Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/ and using notepad open all the video.con files you can find in every sub folder.
Edit the line VideoSettings.setResolution so it reads 800x600@60Hz
Once you have done this you should be able to go into the game and set your desired resolution in options/video.
If that doesn't work delete the battlefield 2 folder in My documents, you will need to re-login and setup controls/video/audio etc.
You will also want to run pbsetup.exe to manually update punkbuster if you haven't played in a while.
