CD-ROM Problem

Hey, I've read the sticky about the no error, no startup issue, and it didn't help.

I have the CD-ROM edition, and when I put in the disk it will start to read it, the hourglass will pop up, and then nothing happens. The auto-run doesn't show up. There is the RARE occassion when the game does work, but it also sometimes just shows the splash screen and doesn't work.

So is the problem that you installed the game and can't play it or that you can't install the game?
It could be something to do with cd/dvd copying/emulating software conflicting with the copy protection on the disk.
It could be that your install is corrupt and you need to do a manual uninstall
Maybe your graphics card isn't supported or the drivers need updating.
Or maybe your cd drive needs replacing.
Need more info and graphics card specs.

Have you explored the cd and manually opened the setup.exe file?

Sorry, I thought that my graphic card was included. I have a nvidia 8800 GTS, I know that's not the problem because I played it with an older card before.

What the problem is, is that something is stopping the disc from being read. Auto-run doesn't pop up, but in the my computer it says BF 2142, but it doesn't have the BF 2142 Icon, just text. It took me about 6 hours to install the game because the disc was only read once in that time. After I ejected the disc, it stopped working.

There is no scratches or damages on the disc. I have uninstalled all of the programs that involve emulation. The registry keys are still there from those programs, and if anyone could tell me how to get rid of them it would be very helpfull. (Daemon tools, Power Iso, and Magic iso).

I'm not sure it would be those programs causing the problem, it is possible, but like i said, i have had the game run at least once a week -_-.

I have a Samsung DVD-ROM SD-612.
Also a Sony CD-RW CRX160E

One last thing,

All along I thought it was my DVD Drive, so when the auto run did pop up, i made an image using magic iso. The game then did not work. Even if I clean out my registry, will the game even work now?

UPDATE: I deleted a folder in the Install Shield Folder, and now my HD will read the disc.

New problem: "Please ensure the Install disc...." ect ect.

Not sure if there is a known fix for this or not.

Have you updated your drive with the latest firmware? Check all the cables as well.

try removing your drive from the control panel -> system ->hardware -> device manager -> right click on your drive and click uninstall . restart your computer and wait for it to reinstall itself, this is usually automatic and you will get a little baloon to say its done appear. see if it works.
if it doesnt work, might be worth considering the drive may be on its way out.
only other thing i can suggest to try is the filterkey settings in the registry, dont bother doing the registry manually as some clever so and so has made a file to do it for you. link below

Nothing worked. I am still at the "Please ensure the Install disc..." error.

There has to be a fix for this O_o

It installed fine on my friends laptop.

This might not apply to you, but worth checking:
Problem - CD/DVD drive not recognising disc:
Cause - Mostly likely Nforce4
Fix - nforce IDE SW Driver issue, either clean Hard-Drive of nforce drivers, install new and select 'No' when prompted to install the IDE SW Driver or if you go into your device manager and click on IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLER, most likely under here anyone with an NFORCE 1, 2, 3, 4 board will have Nvidia Nforce* ATA CONTROLLER - pick update driver and pick NO and pick Install from List then DON'T SEARCH and in the list you should see all the Nvidia items and STANDARD DUAL CHANNEL PCI IDE CONTROLLER. Choose STANDARD DUAL CHANNEL PCI IDE CONTROLLER and you should be good to go.
If it does not show in the Window then you can UNCHECK Show Compatible and then you'll see the Standard on the left choose this and that's it
