Re: Spy s are dying breed
QFT this is why I hate games bigger then 8 on 8.
Also QFT, or to sap that sentry.
To me it's main use is against snipers or other camping players, but it can also be useful when people are capping a point, a lot of the time they stand still then. Even from afar you can force them to leave the point or burn.
Anyway, spy tip, a lot of the time when you get shot by a bullet-type weapon there's no visible recoil from the spy, along with the fake healthbar not going down, I've managed to trick some people into thinking they're just shooting their own teammate.
One particular time I walked up to an engi and he shot me, to which I spammed the "no" voicecom. He spammed "yes" and went back to his sentry, which I promptly sapped after stabbing him. (One of those fast stab & sap combos)
Of course this won't work with the flamethrower! Also sometimes people notice you don't give off those "sparks" that appear when you shoot a real teammate.Comment

Re: Spy s are dying breed
Going for Sentries is a waste of time unless you're on a team that is well co-ordinated (and thereby dominating already).
A spies talents are wasted when an engineer can just go around wrenching everything in sight to one-shot kill any would-be sappers. A spy would be better used to harass the enemies best offensive players, or to kill off medics.
Of course... as a Spy, I don't even use my sapper on sentries anymore, unless it's a guaranteed easy kill. Instead I just blow up sentries with my gun from afar now. Six shots usually does the trick if the engineer isn't repairing. Remember, the spy's gun doesn't lose damage from long distances, and it's exceptionally accurate.Comment

Re: Spy s are dying breed
You need to learn the technique of backstabbing the engineer, then sapping the sentry before it can turn to shoot you.

Re: Spy s are dying breed
Level 2 and below just backstab and sap
level 3, either do the coordination or if there are no other enemies around dance around like theres a rocket up you're *** spamming sappers as he whacks em offComment

go to youtube and search for tf2 class guides, the best ones are by a guy called EvilDaedelusComment

Re: Spy s are dying breed
or stab then instantly cloak, or sap then cloak and stab, if the engineer isn't looking directly at the sentry, or too near it.Comment

Re: Spy s are dying breed
Eh....sometimes a sentry is in a place too hard to reach for soldiers and demos (and snipers since they can also take down sentries with ease in certain situations), in pub servers this can be a one-way ticket to stalemate. As a spy you can destroy that sentry to keep your team pushing forward, instead of just going sniper and camping the point before the sentry. (As happens too often in pubs....Going for Sentries is a waste of time unless you're on a team that is well co-ordinated (and thereby dominating already).

Also, while I do agree with you that the six-shooter is accurate, it does lose dmg with range.

Re: Spies are dying breed
Got a new tip:
It may be strange, but walk backwards in disguise! It's been ages i was last spy checked using this method. I guess the enemy doesn't think you're a spy when you walk backwards because you are ''retreating''.
I use it when crossing the frontlines and in engineer invested areas.Comment

Re: Spies are dying breed
yer that is a good idea, but not for all situations
most people will still spycheck you anyway but sometimes it will fool them
bad thing is you blind yourself to the direction you want to go
but the risk can certainly be worth it

Re: Spies are dying breed
I find that people get tunnel vision when they have goals.
Wait until people find their goal before you try to interfere.
Points, Carts, Destructible Engie Assets, Far off Enemies... all make wonderful distractions to allow you to backstab 4+ people at once. My current record is 11 at once.
Do this and you won't need to worry about your disguise. You just need to get in behind them and find a good vantage point where you can't be seen while you wait. By far my favorite stage to do this is the original Well stage where people tend to do a lot of long-range fighting by the rivers or center point.
Of course, defending as a spy for all of the Gold Rush stages are pure gold for spies, since the cart makes a great place for people to get distracted.Comment
