    'The Last Powow'

    Hello fellow soldiers!

It has been almost a month since our last report from the Jungle. Today's news is just to let you guys know that we are still alive and well. Progress is slowed, but we are still progressing. Many of you have seen me perhaps on the servers and others maybe listed in the news for other mods.

Yes, I have taken some time away from EoD, while waiting on some maps from the mappers, to help some of the other mods develope thier, "Theaters of War". In anycase, even though I have been helping out the likes of PR, FH2, IDF and others. I am still working hard on EoD. Today, I would like to show off an item that has been on the shelf for many, many months. I am proud to say that it has finally been able to be shown thanks to my friends over at Project Reality. Therefore, without further fanfare, I would like to show you guys a few ingame screen shots of the S-58 aka H-34 Choctaw.

The Sikorsky S-58 was developed from the Sikorsky's UH-19 Chickasaw. The aircraft first flew on March 8, 1954. It was initially designated HSS-1 Seabat (in its anti-submarine configuration) and HUS-1 Seahorse (in its utility transport configuration) under the US Navy designation system. Under the US Army's system, also used by the fledgling US Air Force, the helicopter was designated H-34. The US Army applied the name Choctaw to the helicopter. In 1962, under the new unified system, the Seabat was redesignated SH-34, the Seahorse as the UH-34, and the Choctaw as the CH-34.

    Vietnam

French evaluations on the reported ground fire vulnerabilities of the CH-34 may have influenced the U.S. Army's decision to deploy the CH-21 Shawnee to Vietnam instead of the CH-34, pending the introduction into widespread service of the Bell UH-1 Iroquois. However, the approximately twenty Army H-34s that did eventually reach Vietnam proved no more vulnerable to ground fire than any other rotary-wing aircraft in the theater, and the CH-34 successfully carried out missions ranging from combat assault to aeromedical evacuation and general cargo transport.

The US Marine Corps continued to use the H-34 pattern even after the US Army had phased it out. Even after the USMC adopted their own version of the UH-1, the UH-1E, the CH-34s continued to be used up to and for a period after the Tet Offensive in 1968.

Marine Corps H-34s were also among the first gunship helicopters trialled in theatre, being fitted with the Temporary Kit-1 (TK-1), comprised of 4 M60C machine guns and two 19 shot 2.75 inch rocket pods. The operations were met with mixed enthusiasm, and the armed H-34s, known as "Stingers" were quickly phased out. The TK-1 kit would form the basis of the TK-2 kit used on the UH-1E helicopters of the USMC.

Our H-34 Choctaw was modeled by Badscull and skinned by [R-Dev]Chuc and myself, with Chuc doing 90% of the work and myself just the little odds and ends. Coding was done by me and features 8 seats total. Pilot, Copilot, Door Gunner and 5 passenger seats. It is therefore, great for transporting a squad of 6 into battle.

Our chopper currently wears the markings of the US Army. However, a Navy version and Marine version are not out of the question. A "Stinger" version may also make its way into the theater, only time will tell.

Keep watching for more news. With this final Indian a chapter closes on the 'Indian' series of Helicopters in Vietnam for EoD. I wonder what the wind might blow in next?

For those asking when the next mod build will be released. I can only say that it is so close I can almost taste it. I will admit my personal goal was by the end of June. However, due to real life issues and schedule. I am going to have to push the release into July.

I am the only coder/developer/exporter, etc. working on the mod build anymore. I have one regular mapper, but currently, his real life prevents him from spending alot of time on the mod. This has made me responsible for all the facets of the mod build. Unfortunately, while I am capable of doing many, many things within BF2. Many things, I am just learning for the first time. This has of course, slowed me down tremendously. In anycase, I do not anticipate any later date than a release in July. If I can get you guys into the Jungle sooner. I certainly will.
