A lot of people say BF2 doesn't support multithreading, but my task manager says otherwise. When I'm playing both my cores are around 70% - 80% usage. But if I set BF2 to run only on 1 core, my FPS in-game goes down by about 20 - 30 and if I check task manager it says the core BF2 runs on it at 100% usage while the other one is at 0% - 10%
There was a discussion about this on flight simulator before it supported multiple cores. If I remember correctly, it was swapping between cores therefore looking a bit like it was using both.
But when I look at the CPU usage graph the difference between the two cores graphs are very small. They're almost identical, like when I play UT3. Is it supposed to be almost identical if it's swapping between cores?
No multi-core support. It was developed before multi-cores, therefore it's quite obvious, it doesn't utilize more than one core.
Not technically correct, the first P4s with Hyperthreading (I.e multi threading capability) were launched in 2002 that's a whole 3 years before BF2 hit the shelves. I am not saying it is fully multi core supported but the possibility exists.
I am just glad that someone brought this up.. As I have been wondering the same thing for along time.. Also how about wide screen support?? Any comments or feed back on this ??
AMD athlon x2's have a t-bar infront of the two cores so the app only see one core but is using two. see crappy pic.
Pretty sure that's not how the Athlon x2s work. If the app has one single thread then only one core is used. For both cores to be used it has to be multi threaded same as with the C2D or the Pentium Dual Cores. The T-Bar or 'Crossbar' as AMD call it is nothing more than an interconnection medium designed to connect the L2cache of each CPU core to the Memory Controller and the Hypertransport Link. It also allows one CPU to address data stored in the L2cache of the other CPU
The simplest way to explain it is the the athlon X2 is not a true dual core its just 2 athlon 64's stuck together and the athlon X2 is designed to allow the use of both cores on single thread apps as well as multi threaded ones. The C2D is built from the ground up as a true dual core processor for multi threaded apps.
Ahtlons still won't use both cores if you're running a single thread app. If you download and install AMD Dual Core Optimizer it will shift some of the extra work load to the second core.

Core 0 is almost fully loaded Core 1 is barely loaded, most likely running background Windows tasks.

When I play BF2 the two graphs are both at 80%. This is why I think it's using both cores. Especially how when i set bf2 to only one core, graph 1 is at 90% - 100% and graph 2 is at 0% - 10% and my FPS drops by about 20.
