BF2 stutters even on lowest settings

After playing BF2 for quite some time, my game stutters. The stuttering is the worst when it counts -- when there's alot of action around. I've lowered the BF2 settings to the lowest possible and no change. Other facts:

- other online games work fine (ie CoD4, Age of Conan)

- BF2 servers report my ping in the 30s and 40s

- other high graphics games work fine

- no stuttering with normal internet usage

My specs are:
ASUS P5B Dexluxe LGA 775
8800 GTS with 512MB
2GB memory Corsair
Intel Core2 CPU6400 2.13 GHz

Have you tried reinstalling the lastest patch? (1.41)

Tried a few tweaks including a full install. Looks promising! Will check further tho.

It's worth a try. I've had problems like recently 8xAA is the same as 2xAA but after a "reinstall" of patch 1.41 it was fixed.

Oops. Sorry about that. I welcome suggestions in any event. If you think I should start a new thread in bf2 i will.
