People still getting the black-screen-then-drop-to-desktop problem?

You know, when it won't even launch?

I've tried the Compatibility-setting-swap fix and it does nothing. Tried removing caches. Nothing. Updated sound and graphics (though it was working 2 days ago with nothing else changed). Nothing.

Anyone know what to try these days?

Well I've worked it out for myself. Tried all the stuff in that thread - no joy.

Was using a BF2142Pace shortcut - it had worked but had stopped working. Decided to try the Start menu shortcut for BF2142Launcher. Didn't work. Realised it didn't have the "+widescreen 1" option that I was successfully using on the Pace shortcut, so thought I'd add it in. Fixed it.

WTF?

ok, i just switched from a ati x800xl to a nvidia 8800GTS, worked fine yesterday, removed everything ati on pc, replaced with current nvidia drivers and now im getting this error, black screen CTD. had the +1 fullscreen before, was still there when i switched over, removed all cache, took off the +1 fullscreen stuff still CTD. than put in +1 widescreen and still CTD. cant figure it out

Try using driver cleaner pro. If you didn't your old ati drivers could still be there. Make sure you read the read me

Changing your graphics card has probably changed your resolution/refresh rate.
Go to My Documents/Battlefield 2142/mods/bf2142/cache/ and delete the folder in there.
Go to My Documents/Battlefield 2142/Profiles/ and using notepad open all the video.con files you can find in every sub folder.
Edit the line VideoSettings.setResolution so it reads 800x600@60Hz
Once you have done this you should be able to go into the game and set your desired resolution in options/video.
