Battlefield 2 Connection interuptions and disconnections

Im looking for a bit of guidance from someone with knowledge.
Trying to summarise my problem, we are getting some really bad lag and in the worst case complete disconnections on battlefield 2. The part that is confusing me is that we have recently went from ADSL2+ to Cable to try and solve the problem and that solved the problem in COD4 but not for battlefield. Further we also tried a complete reformat of the computer and loaded the profiles back from the old HDD, but still the problem remains. Windows firewall and AVG have been turned off and even AVG was removed at one stage. i have tried pb_sleep 500 and no affect and i also tried creating a new profile and still no luck. Im going to try directx next but i would have thought that Service pack 3 would have done that nicely. Im rapidly running out of ideas and was hoping that someone may have had a similiar problem to me and might be able to offer some insight. Computer Specs are following with the only difference being that the reinstall of windows has SP3 instead.

Can you post back with

- your average ping on a server near you
- who your ISP is
- what connection speed you have
- what NIC you have, wireless/cable

And of course, the obvious things that slow down a connection are if other people share it with you/download while you play.

BF2 gives pings around between 40 and 80 but in COD4 i get pings in the 20-30 range. The connection is Optus Cable with speed test results like this

And to answer your last question the connection is through an ethernet cable into the router and from there into the cable modem. It has also been tried without the router in the middle.

Sounds like you have tried everything already. I would take my pc round a mates house who plays bf2 with no problems, just to make sure it is your pc that is the problem and not ISP/connection.
If it's your pc, then it will be a problem with some hardware or software you have installed, usual culprits are sound cards and cd/dvd copying/emulating software.

Tried that. We changed ISP's and connection types because we know that the copper wire is toast outside our house. To add to the list ive just tried taking out the sound card and reinstalling directx. Any ideas would be great! Thanks in advance
