Is there a way to prevent the most annoying weapons selection screen from constantly popping up?

click the little "X" in the top right corner

Or if you are trying to observer the game go into the console, or hit the squiggly line, next to the 1 and type the following command..

renderer.drawhud 0 -

That will remove anything that would be on your screen minus your weapon so good luck shooting at anything.. Than when you are done simply go back to the squiggly line next to the 1 and type..

renderer.drawhud 1 -

This will bring your hud display back..

You can even play like that. Sometimes it's pretty cool... until you realise how helpful the minimap is :p

I would Imagine it looking something like PR. NO Mini Map at all, more realistic...

That never works for me. It goes away for a while, but then it comes back.

you're doing it wrong. wait till it comes up on it's own, then hit the x. enter doesn't do the same thing for some reason.
