Recording and Replaying Demos

I'm sure there are many many annoying threads on this subject, but I need special help to those who are willing to offer it.

I'm trying to record and replay my demos on CoD4.
I use the console "/record <demoname>" & "/stoprecord"
When I go to play the demos I use "/demo <demoname" and as I've read many places it says "x.dl_1" or whatever not found.
I know this is supposed to happen at first, but I keep reading around and I absolutely can not fix it. I've read many tutorials that say you're supposed to have a "demos" folder under your "main" folder in the CoD4 directory.
There was no "demos" folder, and one of the tutorials I read instructed me to create one. I did and even still when I try to record demos they don't show up there.
I'm beginning to think more and more that my CoD4 folder itself is all messed up.
I'm running Windows Vista, and I have "Program Files/Activision/Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare" underneath this folder the only folders are the following:
Docs
Main
miles
Mods
pb
zone

I think there's supposed to be other things... but I'm not sure... If someone could please help me that would be really really... helpful. Thank you all.

When you recorded the demos you must have been on a Modded server so go into your Mods/(the mod you were on)/ folder and find the demos folder with the demos there.

To run the demos that you recorded from a mod, simply load up CoD4 and launch that specific mod then open console and /demo (demoname)

You could move the demo files from inside the mods into your main/demo folder but it's not advised as alot of modded servers use different skins/weapons/fx so alot of that would be missing if you ran it without the mod.

I wasn't playing a mod. The only mod I have is pam4, and I certainly wasn't playing that. Under my "Mods" folder the only thing that's there is the "ModWarfare" folder.

I think Vista may be your problem. Try following this pathway instead, and looking for the folders you need:
<drive name>:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore \Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\...

I've tried this too. There's no "AppData" under that folder. :s

Do a Full Search for the extension: .dm_1

This is the CoD4 (and vCoD and CoD2) demo file extension, you will be able to find out where its stored from the results...

Try recording another demo, maybe you never actually recorded anything in the first place... :?

I've tried recording new demos before and I've tried again just now. They simply aren't showing up. :s

When I go to play them in the game it prompts me in a pulldown menu with all the names of the demos I've recorded. That's what makes me wonder.

Wow. I downloaded this and it just found all my demos. All the ones I've recorded. Thanks for helping on accident!

They all play, and it says they're in main/demos, but they still don't show up when I just browse there. Oh well. Thanks.

The files or folder they are stored in could be marked as a system folder that is hidden in Windows. Thats the only thing I can think of that would stop you from seeing the files.

If you really want to, you can go to microsofts support site and go into the knowledgebase and ask it "How to show hidden and system files" in Vista.

Anyway, glad I could help.

Yeah, that's what I thought at first too.
I thought that something with UAC or something like that was preventing me form seeing them. But I typed in the specific location in my address bar and it still wasn't bringing anything up. That should even reveal hidden files. Furthermore, that shouldn't have an effect on just playing them.

Anyways, thank you a whole lot for your help! Now to get on that frag vid.
