  • Frame rates dropping like a stone

Been playing BF2 for a while now everything has been OK but today my frame rates have dropped to around 20FPS. I have made no system changes! and can't figure out what's going on. Reboot my Router, system and deleted the BF2 folder etc. Nothing works and the game is unplayable.

    any help is appreciated.

Well I re-installed everything (including Vista) carried out all update, used Black Vipers services tweaks. And even used N Tune to over clock my video card.

The same thing keeps happening, my frame rates drop to around 10 in major battles and I just get slaughtered. I don't know what else to do, am I to give up the best game of all time!

Hmm thats strange! a rig like that should run bf2 pretty much flat out. Could there be a chance of overheating? if you are not already, update gfx drivers. Also what rez are you playing at? For now you could try turning down a few settings and that should boost you back up.

yeah kind of agree, overheating may be the cause. I'll be dismantling the PC and looking for anything amiss.

You were right my CPU fan is faulty. One of the connecting pilers does not attach the the motherboard properly.

Does your FPS still drop after you fixed the processor fan?

Re: Frame rates dropping like a stone

I remember back in the days when BF2 was released it did not like overclocked hardware, if this is the case now i suggest you set ur hardware back to default if your low fps is still occurring.

                  Gotta love those quick fixes..

I am experiencing the same thing here. but Like buddy did, I took apart the machine, and not experiencing any overheating.. I have not over-clocked anything, Everything used to be smooth as glass. Everything running on high, All I have done recently is upgrade to 4 gigs of Ram. And now things seem to be running a bit sluggish, when the ram should be helping speed these things up.. ANy Ideas??

Re: Frame rates dropping like a stone

I once had that problem with a loose CPU fan, but my system wouldn't even boot up, never would have guessed that as a cause for a frame-rate drop.

Clements, we talked about this ...I had a feeling you would have a problem.

                    one:
Spring for Vista (so your OS 'sees' all your RAM and uses it efficiently)

                    two:
make sure your RAM matches each other, so your voltage and clock-speeds in your Bios settings optimize performance. Unlike human beings, not all RAM is created equal.
