CoD4 1.6 crashes when hitting 'Join Game' (to the server browser)

Whenever I hit the 'Join Game' button, which brings you to the server browser and doesn't connect you to a server, my game CTDs.
I can connect to server with e.g. Xfire or direct connect.

This problem never occured, until I patched CoD4 to 1.6.

I have Windows XP x64 bit, but I don't think that my OS causes the problem.

I've tried reinstalling already. Does anyone have an idea what might cause this?

Could be graphics problem... try updating graphics drivers...

Hm could be, I'll see tomorow. I'll tell you if it worked or not. Although the drivers are pretty new... ty anyway

Could also be a 'bad install' when you were installing the patch, and it may have missed the file update for the server browser... if so you'll need to install the "windows server files" - since you can't "reinstall the patch" the only way to "reinstall" the patch, would be to reinstall CoD4, and its easier to download the server files as those contain all the files from the patch in a nice .zip

You can get it off FPSAdmin, not sure if its on TGF yet?

The vid card driver update didn't work.
I already reinstalled CoD4, but im going to try this now too. I hope it'll work. ^^

Try edit your config_mp.cfg found in CoD4/Players/Profile/<NAME>/ folder

Find:

seta ui_browserFriendlyfire
...to...
seta ui_browserShowPure

and set it to:

seta ui_browserHardcore "0"
seta ui_browserKillcam "-1"
seta ui_browserMod "-1"
seta ui_browserOldSchool "-1"
seta ui_browserShowDedicated "0"
seta ui_browserShowEmpty "1"

seta ui_browserShowNoPassword "1"
seta ui_browserShowPassword "-1"
seta ui_browserShowPunkBuster "-1"

It's possible that you might have some set to like -0 or 3 or something...

No, that didn't fix it. But after your message I started experimenting with the cfg files, and I fixed it. This is what I did:

1. Make a new profile in the game
2. Copy the new CFG files (config_mp.cfg and config.cfg) to the profile that can't browse the server list
3. Open the config_mp.cfg file and press Ctrl + H (replace)
4. Put the name of the new profile in the first box, and your old profile in the second. Press Replace all. Save the file.
5. Repeat step 4 for config.cfg
6. Go in game, and it should work.

Note: You might lose Singleplayer saved games, but I'm not sure. Didn't check yet, and can't be bothered anyway. Your online rank/achievements don't get reset.
