  • Maps?

noob question. Ive seen the custom maps - karkand, sharqi, mashtuur and was wondering if you can run them on a normal public server? OR is it like BF2 and you have to made it private (unranked) in order to do so.

also is it like the old CODs? where you download the map on trying to connect to the server?

Sorry. but im relatively new to COD (as a server admin)

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Maps?

The maps will be downloaded by COD like COD2 did. The custom maps will be unranked.

      Yeah ^

Running custom maps = "unranked" server, however that just means your current rank 55 and custom classes wouldn't be ported over, you would be playing as Pvt again on these servers, some running a Mod so that you have ALL weapons, some acting like "ranked" servers where you need to unlock the weapons again. Each custom server basically uses its own "ranked" server FOR just that server... so if you play alot on one custom server you'll eventually get level 55 for them... this is different for each custom server, and mod setup they run...

Setup a redirect server with Mods/ and Usermaps/ folder so when players join your server they will download off the redirect whilst loading the game...

what if you stuck the maps (karkand and sharqi in this case) in the rotation but all the rest were normal? Would it switch between ranked and unranked depending on the maps or just be unranked?

          Re: Maps?

To run any custom maps, you need to have the server 'unranked' running a mod, like "ModernWarfare" so if you were to have your server running ranked then stick some custom maps in the map rotation, it won't load those maps...

There is a way to run custom maps on ranked servers but its not recommended, as the www/redirect wouldn't download for it... you basically put the iwd file of the maps into main and the ff files into zone folder - but this is not really advised... UAN has it setup, and they need to use a MapSync program so players can join...
