    frame rates per second

Currently my FPS changes high 20's-low 30-s while I'm playing(i can see it top right of my screen in RED). The game lags while I play could it be because of the FPS.

if so whats a good FPS number and how do I change it?

    Whats your system specs?

If you want higher fps, you need to lower your settings. Unless you already play on all low which would require a system upgrade.

        Re: frame rates per second

What video card and what processor do you have? We'll be better able to help diagnose your problem once we know.

        In the meantime...
Turn OFF anti-aliasing (big fps hit)
turn OFF specular map & glow (another big fps hit)
change your video mode to 1024x768
        turn OFF sync every frame
        turn OFF shadows

EDIT: I see you've added your specs to your post above.

Your processor is mid-range at best, but it's OK.

Your video cards are your weak link. Even running 2 of them together, the 6600LE is not able to handle intense graphic needs. You definitely should not run anti-aliasing or specular map. You can try with shadows ON/OFF to see if that helps.

Also check to make sure your anisotropic filtering is off as well (Options->Texture Settings screen). On that same screen, you might try turning some of the other textures down.

Once that's done, you can try to play around with your video mode (screen resolution) and see if you can go above 1024x768, but you may not be able to while still getting a good frame-rate.

You're going to have more and more problems playing future games with that setup, so if you're really into gaming on your PC, you should start planning an upgrade to at least the video card now.

EDIT2: one more thing, once in game, press ~ to activate the console, and type in:

/set seta r_rendererPreference shader model 2.0 and hit Enter. This will render the game at a lower level, and boost your fps as well. (you can also change this value in your config_mp.cfg file, located in your ..\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\<your profile name> folder, using wordpad.)

thanks, but how do I change my FPS back to what it originally was.i did the /cg_drawfps and /com_maxfps125 command couple days ago and screwed up the FPS.

What number should I use because the highest FPS i get now is 12:shakehead:

            Re: frame rates per second

First, read my additional edits above.

Next, those commands you entered will not lower your fps. cg_drawfps only puts the counter on-screen, and com_maxfps just sets a limit that your fps won't go above (yours is set for 125, which you're not even getting close to, so it's not affecting you in a negative way). If you really want, you can try /com_maxfps 0, which should uncap it and let it play naturally.

Again, your low fps is due to your video card(s). The only way to boost your fps, is to lower the various settings I mentioned above.

                Re: frame rates per second

No. Those are exactly the same settings you posted above at first, which I have already told you are not going to help.

Try the /com_maxfps 0 thing I suggested, as it is the only thing that could possibly have affected your frame-rate. But even so, 30 fps is pretty bad.

I'm going to quote you what I wrote above again...read it carefully and make these changes. If you want a higher fps, you're going to have to accept playing the game at a lower graphic level.

Turn OFF anti-aliasing (big fps hit)
turn OFF specular map & glow (another big fps hit)
change your video mode to 1024x768
                turn OFF sync every frame
                turn OFF shadows

Also check to make sure your anisotropic filtering is off as well (in the Options->Texture Settings screen). On that same screen, you might try turning some of the other textures down.

Don't worry about turning all of these things down. Do that to start, then you can try playing around with some of them one at a time, turning them back up, and see how it affects your fps.

But I'll say again, 2 things for sure:
                anti-aliasing OFF
                specular map OFF

These 2 alone will save you a lot of fps, and your video cards are not powerful enough to handle them properly.

                    Resolution. Try something much lower.

                    Like 800x600.

And along with that, try setting "Dual Video Cards" to "yes".

Have you turned all of your other settings down too, or just anti-aliasing and spec map?

EDIT: and did you actually hit "Apply" (bottom of the screen) when you turned these settings off? It's hard to believe you didn't see any frame-rate increase by turning off AA & spec map.

I changed the settings to your suggestions, the highest frame rate I get is 20. What should it be,may my frame rate has always been the same I just never knew what it was

It's hard to say what your fps should be...again, you have an underpowered vid card, but if you have 2 of them running together, it should probably give you better results.

Try this: go into your options screen, and at the bottom, click on "Optimal System Settings"...this will allow the game to scan your PC and set what it thinks you should be running. Then, pay attention to the "Dual Video Cards" setting...if the game leaves it as "no", then try to play and see what fps you get. Then, try turning it to "yes" and try again to see if there's a difference.

There may be something on your PC running in the background (av, firewall, spyware). I'm running an Athlon XP 3000+, 1 gig ram, geforce 7600gs agp, 1024x768 res and I average in the mid 50 fps.
