    Jet defense.

Now, i have been trying to improve my defensive tactics in jets. When i get a jet on my tail i wait for him to fire missles then i flare and corkscrew (Looping over/under while barrel rolling) hope you follow that. When ever i try the S-Under im always too low haha...Ive tried to do a S-Over (if that exists) basically i invert and fly into the sky. Sometimes that works sometimes it doesnt. I also try circling with afterburner on and sometimes i can get behind them. But other times when i corkscrew (see above) i get nailed and others i dont.

Somehow i was being followed on Kubra Dam and I went up to make it look like i was going to do a loop (backwards). But when i got to crest the loop and start back down I inverted my self...flew straight the same way i was going in the loop and dived behind my follower.

Could you follow that? Thats kind of hard to explain i guess..

Anyone have any other defensive tactics to get away or even behind your follower? I have the bombing down pretty good and I know all the tricks to getting opponents to flare first and such.

Thanks! Sorry if its hard to understand what im trying to describe! :yay:

i dont like the attitude here.why do you ask if we can follow? you think we are retardeds?anyways
    first of all this:

is a move when you discover like after 30-40 hours in jets..
why would it be difficult to understand?(btw if you would do this against me or any other skilled jet pilot you would only have time to finish that invert roll until my missiles meet your aircraft)
second if you want to be really good at defense in air you should be really good at evasion...why would you actually let a jet on you and try dodging missiles?thats a bit hopeless thing to do..i would neither let anyone get on my tail nor fire his missiles up my a55..add me to xfire and you practice with me in a couple of days..i will make sure that you have a better aimed way of aviation after that

I never said that anyone on here was "retarded". Second, i was referring to the paragraph above not necessarily the Kubra Dam part.

Thanks for your comments. And I dont know how/why he didnt shoot at me. I think that pilot was new because as soon as i locked missles on him without firing he flared... so maybe i got lucky. But the next time i get in a server tonight i hope. Im gonna mess around and see what i come up with.

At the Crest of the loop, if i inverted again but this time i did a backwards loop behind him instead of flying straight above him for a few seconds...

EDIT: I thought it would be hard to understand because of the way i typed it. Sometimes people type things they can picture but others who read it cannot picture the same thing. That is why.

you typed it in the best possible way you could and you know it plus you alredy guessed that there were a lot of over average pilots here..if we dont get it its our problem dont really care about it so much add me to xfire: dejavusgambler
there are 100 more combinations which are better than that move and which are to be learned by a real pilot candidate

There's one thing you should know that most others overlook.

The higher you fly, the faster you fly. I use this with the f35 all the time to outrun J10 missiles.

              Re: Jet defense.

If it is one thing I love about BF2, it is that 3 years on we are still trying to figure out that golden evasive move that will dodge missiles every time..

So far, the closest we have come IMO is the F-35 strato run, which 1) doesn't work with anything but the F-35 and 2) you can still be shot down if you don't get that altitude and speed fast enough. I've come across VERY few pilots who have actually mastered this move to the point where I was not able to down them once the whole round.

The rolling corkscrew move, especially when used with flares, is pretty solid at fending off the first couple of missile shots, but any decent pilot will keep patience, maintain the optimum separation, lead the target, and squeeze off 2 more for the kill. To survive (and get a chance at turning the tables on your attacker) you have to get out of his scope of fire, and the rolling corkscrew keeps you right in it.

I'm also quite aware of the "negative loop" technique, in which the jet rolls inverted, then pushes forward on the stick to execute a loop; I would give it a 50/50 chance on dodging the first missile or two, but once you reach the apex, if you haven't lost him visually, you're in trouble.

Honestly, I don't think there is a magical move one can do, that will get you out of any situation you run into with jets 100% of the time. There are too many variables... speed, angle, range, etc that play a part in whether you get hit or not in a jet.

Actually, this is one aspect of BF2 that mimics military aviation IRL. You could be the best pilot in the world, but when that missile gets launched at you, it's always a coin toss.

                Re: Jet defense.

Yea man, I love flying in BF2. Im still working on my own uber techniques lol. But i plan on getting in touch with the guy above and have him work with me if he can.

Today, after i posted this i got on Gulf of Oman and pulled a few nice moves. I was being followed so I went straight up and pulled back like for a loop, then i inverted myself and turned down behind him as he finished the loop. He had no idea where I went it was a good feeling.

I also did something with the J-10 that was similar to that. But that plane is so agile that its quite easy...although I do not make it a habit of playing on maps with the J10. I stick with Kubra/Gulf.

EDIT: What is this strato move?

                  Re: Jet defense.

Kubra Dam used to be my #1 played map. Very exciting place for jets.

The strato run technique is executed using (and only) the F-35, by climbing to about 900FT AGL (it could be more, I've heard some guys mention as high as 1000FT) and maintaining a level run in full afterburner. If done correctly, the F-35 will accelerate to a very high speed and actually out run the missile that is tracking on it.

It's a very tough move to perfect, since, as I'm sure you know, any aircraft that goes above 800FT will begin to lose control, and quite often ends up off the map in the red zone. You've almost got to finess the aircraft and "ride the wave" so to speak so that you can still control the aircraft enough to stay within the bounds of the map. There are a couple of other pilots on this forum who could better explain this trick than myself, but suffice to say, it takes a lot of practice to really get it down.

Critical to pulling off the move, is getting to that initial 850-900FT as fast as possible; if the missile reaches you before that, you're done.

Anyway, good luck with your training; all the info you need is right here at TBF2.

                      Re: Jet defense.

The key is to NOT go high enough to lose control (well most of the time). On dragon I fly to 700 meters. You know you've done it right when your speed hits 2500 or so. The first time I tried it I got cries of "hax" and "I've never seen anyone move that fast". It's way easier than others would have you beleive.

Also... did you say the J10 is agile? That thing handles like a shopping cart! I land the J10 on the carrier with a couple C4 and steal an F35.

Actually the key is not depending on precalculated moves. React to what your opponent does, not to the fact that he's behind you. It's like a circle: You make your first move, he'll follow, then you raect to the move he made.

You don't need to go high in your F35 to shake off a J10. You just have to outclass your opponent.

                            Challenge me?

Either rape airport or stratorun. There is no way F35 can match J10 below 800m. And of course we are not talking about beginner pilots in J10

I'm not talking about beginner pilots, neither about very good pilots. I remember when I tought I was good, about 4 or 5 months ago. (and I was one of the better pilots on our clan's public server.) I came to a dalian plant server and flyed against EDDIE_PL, with the J10 against his F35. I'm not sure, but I think he killed me twice that round and I killed him once, without going high!!

Nowadays I hardly go higher than 400 m in an F35. I only do that in 2 vs 1 situations. My kill/death ratio sucks tough and going high is an effective way for staying alive longer. But then you miss all the excitement.

Btw I'm always in for a 1v1 against a good pilot, here's my xfire: axelfoley000
