how to play 1.5 beta and 1.4 on the same machine?

when the 1.40 beta was out, we could play both 1.25 and 1.40 on the same machine - just use whichever directory as needed.

but now i installed 1.50 and when i try to run 1.40 it goes black and then drops back to the desktop, no errors or anything.

i can't figure out why: there's nothing different about the pc except the different directory (which i renamed back to the original) and the registry keys for version and build number (which i changed back to the 1.40 value).

for the record, 1.50 uses these values:
"BuildNr"="1.10.44.0"
"Version"="1.50"

1.40 uses these:
"BuildNr"="1.09.79.0"
"Version"="1.28z"

and has anyone figured out a way to be able to play both 1.40 and 1.50 on the same PC?

never mind i think i figured it out, i just had to rename the my documents/battlefield 2142/profiles folder

Weird man... I just copy and rename my entire "Battlefield 2142" folder before patching, then when I want to play 1.4 I rename the copied folder back to "Battlefield 2142" and rename the patched folder to "2142 1.5". No regedit'ing needed :p

That's what I do fingulfin, but it completely messed up my PC this time around..couldnt play patch 1.40 again without uninstalling everything, reinstalling and then deleting the 'Battlefield 2142' folder in My Documents. I know plenty of people who have had the same problem..

I never had any problem with having both. The only problem i see is every time i switch, my kits are blank no biggie

i made a backup of my 1.40 folder. but that one got patched to. or so does it appear to be...

Frankly I could care less about going back to 1.4, but your best bet is doing exactly what Fin said he does.

the registry is ignored in 1.50

you just have to rename your 2 folders:
the BF 2142 install folder
the my documents/bf 2142 folder

that's it

I was about to post a similar thing yeah as long as you have a big harddrive thats the best thing to do.

The reason, at least for me was the widscreen, start 1.50, change it to 800x600 and close and try starting 1.40. Renaming the My Docs folder works too since that's where video.con is with the resolution. I was getting a crash with an error when I had 1.50 set to 1680x1050 when I tried to start 1.40, changed 1.50 to 800x600 and started 1.40 and joined a server, no problem. Back to using the shortcut fix for now I guess

Aren't you just able to activate 1.4 and 1.5 Beta on the Community -> Custom Games section?
It is there, just never tested it...

No... All that does is launch mods. Patching your game replaces files, it doesn't create a new folder.

i just copied my bf2142 main folder and the one in my documents. Rename them when i want to switch between patches. Works like a champ.
