    Balancing Operation Shingle

By the name of this thread you are probably thinking this is a thread with me whining about how inbalanced this map is, but it is rather me telling you how you can fix it.

Now I found this picture on the xfire account dtener was posting everywhere, and I thought this would be very useful in making my point.

The fault which makes Shingle imbalanced comes at the beginning of the game. Now as you can see, the PAC start with 6 flags and the EU are stuck in a funnel giving them the disadvantage. But, last night as I was falling asleep I found a way to make this map balanced. So, here is what my version of the map would look like.

Start each team with 1 flag, the rest are neutral. Give PAC a walker and a FAV. Give EU also a walker and a FAV. This would allow both teams to get atleast a couple flags before the fighting begins.

I'm not so sure about making everything neutral but...
Atleast the tickets should be changed, the PAC, starting with all the spawns has more tickets then the attacking EU team.
This could have to do with the isseu when loading the map, as sempf pointed out, the PAC and EU are switched on this.

I think it would be more balanced with 1 neutral flag though, I think neutralizing them all would be to extreme.

I haven't played it, but that would completely change the whole map. Instead of an assault map like Gib, Cerbere, or Berlin it would be like Tunis and Belgrade. I think the map will be fine as it is. They do need to fix the ticket counts so that EU starts with 330 and PAC 300 instead of the other way around but I'm sure that will be taken care of. Once this gets further along and you get more teamwork instead of everyone just "checking out the map" I think it will probably be fine. Just looking at it I think it will be easier for EU to break out than it is for PAC on Gibraltar.

I agree with you on that fact, but about it being easier for EU to break out than PAC on Gibralter I don't. This picture doesn't show all the fences and sheer drops that hinder the EU's ability to get out without me headshotting them. :p No, but seriously there is too much fencing and it creates many very small choke points hindering the EU's ability to move around enemy campers.

You might just be right and it will work fine once they switch the tickets and people stop exploring the map, but I was just throwing an idea out there.

Thank you guys for the input, your ideas are helping me think a bit more about this map and how it could be balanced. Let's just hope they listen to us.

It could be like cerbere with one flag neutral at start. EU still ends up capping it first usually because they are closer, but then they don't have that head start to set up camp there right away.

this is totally diffrent to all CQ maps its mostly PAC attacking

if you read about the game it ses PAC trying to take over EU but now its other way :p

I've always preferred Double Assault maps like Belgrade and Tunis, so I like your suggestion.

If you are playing on unbalanced teams (different levels of skill represented in the two teams), these Assault maps can be decidedly unfun.

How many times have you personally complained when your team just can't break through at Gibraltar? Or get out of the main at Cerbere? I know I've been plenty frustrated while pubbing those maps.

Double Assault minimizes that problem. But, that's a design decision, not a balance issue really. With teamwork, this is not an issue.

Thanks for all the comments. What if Command Center was also an uncap base so it would be a double assault map? Or, here's another idea...a better one...what if Warehouse was the only neutral flag?

                    Opinions?

Bingo! That would make ALL THE DIFFERENCE! So simple, make Warehouse neutral...

That's the decision made on the Cerbere map, too.

Well. Of the last 5 or so games I played on Anzio - PAC won every time, easily. Our PAC engineers mined the hell out of the gates from the bridge. Still the EU broke out and took the flag to the east of Com Centre.

It's harder to break out with the FAVs as to my knowledge there is no back way to escape with them.

there is actually but it is difficult. i did it 3 times and 2 times i needed to bail cuz i drove inside the water. if you are trained a bit though it will succeed every time. oh and shingle 16 looks more balanced but is less. as they have more time to set up traps and prepare.

Given a little bit of time I am sure players will find creative ways around obstacles and other routes to break out.
