8x anti aliasing

how come bf2142 wont let me select 8x it always jumps back to 4x and then says i need to optimize my game blah blah... i load a map and it runs optimizing shaders quickly. close the game reopen and when i try to change it to 8x again it goes back to 4x and gives me same messaeg... is 4x the max?

should i change it manually in nvidia control panel? i got a 8800gts 512 (g92)

This method will also work to get antialiasing x8 or 8x

Go to the Battlefield 2142 folder in My Documents. Not the Battlefield 2142 in Programs. Then get to the video.con folder for a soldier. There are three soldiers in my folder, 0001, 0002, 0003, 004 and Default.

Here is a sample location of where it would be:
c/users/ your name/ documents/ Battlefield 2142/Profiles/0001/Video.con

Then double click on the folder to open it and it will say something like "unknown file type". Then click to select a program to open it. Then browse to get "Notepad" and select it. I will usually uncheck the box that says "Always use this program to open this file type". It probably does not matter too much.

Then with the file open in Notepad look for "VideoSettings.setAnitaliasing 4Samples" The entire project is to change the 4 to an 8. Then save the file and you are finished for that soldier. Then do it for 002, 003, 0004 and default.

You are finished. If you mess up then the worst that can happen is that you need to delete the entire Battlefield 2142 folder in My Documents. You lose all of your settings and favorite servers but you do not have to reinstall the game.

Here is a copy and paste of before and after. The line to edit is the fourth line from the bottom.

i dont really see the point of 8x AA the game looks pretty awsome on max settings anyways

When your playing at a lower resolution 8xAA can be very welcome.

Just playing the game and having everything work fine? Boring. I get enjoyment out of pushing the video cards so hard that they crash. Even if the picture is great the urge to push on to higher settings is irresistable. Those gpu temps have to be at least 70.

How many things are as thrilling as driving an apc full of guys when the screen goes BSOD? Then holding down the power button and rebooting as fast as possible and trying to rejoin the game.

The EOD slogan in regards to C4 explosive, "If you need one and you have five then use eight."

I don't get much enjoyment out of a BSOD or crash when I am playing a game.

yeah they can enjoy 8x AA looking at respawn screens while i kill them running at ONLY 4xAA lol

I was only being half serious. I am willing to take a BSOD every two days of playing if that will allow increased FPS or antialiasing.

I just got one today from trying to get 5 more MHz on the memory clock.

i dont know why youd try to get more than 100fps which the game caps you at unless you uncap it i mean do you NEED more than 100fps? when you uncap it it becomes more inconsistent so its actually better off keeping it capped so you have consistent fps

dynamic shadows just show cool shadows on your gun and stuff and shows the shadows cast by people. it isnt the kind of shadows that makes it harder to see people.

Due to your commment I am going to have to experiment with the shadows. What I find irksome is when the enemy is in a corner of one of the hollowed out boxcars and I just see the muzzle flashes and see my health going down FAST.

I have a 16:10 24 inch monitor running 1920 by 1200 and the game running 1920 by 1080 with the image stretched and the FPS does go below one hundred at times. Having the effects maxed out also costs FPS. The flames and smoke on the burning wreckage are so beautiful and they aren't there in such bounty unless it is maxed. Also a maxed view distance costs but that is nice. The widescreen costs FPS and the widescreen is mostly beneficial. The widescreen field of view encompasses more action but the problem is that it is harder to aim at the enemy since they are occupying fewer pixels on the screen. The regular 4:3 view is like a built in zoom.

Also, I just cannot leave well enough alone. I am always swapping out cards, pushing the clocks, changing fans or putting new thermal paste on the CPU.

yeah i get ya your into your hardware

but yeah you will find a small performance boost if you dare say drop your resolution down a bit i run at 800x600 and i played it completely maxed and i noticed it was a little harder to be a really good shot. i kind of just wish everyone had the same kind of hardware and all played on maxd settings because then you would be able to have beutiful visuals and not have any disadvantage in terms of performance.

What card are you running? I don't think there is a setting I could use that would make my current card break a sweat!
