BF2 not loading

Haven't been on here in a while

Just got a new laptop last week, HP Pavilion dv9000

ANyways, I just tried to get on, and I would ge the menu screen and would click the Start BF2 button. The screen would go black as if it were loading, then cut back to my desktop. Same thing if I tried from the shortcut I'd get the big BF2 logo and it'd do the same thing. Go to black then cut out and go back to my desktop. Crtl+Alt+Del to Task Manager and it doesn't even show that it's running

I'm running Vista 64bit and NIVIDA 8600gs(or gm, I don't know)

Check what refresh rate your screen runs at, if it is below 60Hz you will need to manually change it in all the video.con files (using notepad).

How do I get to any of that. I can run programs, but really have no technical knowledge of computers

Your refresh rate can be found by right clicking on your desktop, select personalize, display settings, advanced settings, monitor.
The video.con files are in Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default and 0001 0002 etc

even after changing refresh rate to 60, and changing resolution to 800 x 600, it still doesn't work. i guess i don't meet system requirements. whenever i check the EAsyInfo, i get a fail for O/S and Unknown Compatibility for Display Device, Display Driver, and Sound Driver

for the O/S i can just change to run in compatibility mode for win XP SP2
however for display device and driver, i'm not sure what to do. sound driver doesn't matter i don't think

working with:
O/S: Vista
display device: Mobile Intel 945GM express chipset family
display driver: 7.14.10.1132

Ah, I'm running at 59Hz

I don't think I have Notepad, I have OneNote though, but I tried to open the video.con files and there's nothing in the default file. I tried to open then from my computer and it couldn't open them from there either

I did find some other threads last week but can't find them. I thought there were some other things I could do or a patch or something

If you are running windows you will have notepad, you should be prompted to select a program from a list when you try and open video.con, notepad will be in that list, or click browse and find it in c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe
The video.con should have something like this inside, if not paste it in:

BF2 may not run below 60Hz. I know it won't run at 50Hz. There's a workaround where you can start the game on an external monitor then switch to the internal display but that's not much use in most cases.
