    Features you'd like to see

Well this thread may not make any difference to how the game is made, but it's just to discuss features that you personally think would be a good idea...

What I think might be good:
    • MOHAA had the option to pick skins on MP - I've always liked this. If you could customise your character a little, either by picking a certain skin for a certain weapon class or by customizing each part of the clothing for your character (e.g. berrat or hat, glasses or goggles or none - like Rainbow 6: Vegas 2)
    • I don't know if the WW2 guns had different fire rate modes, i.e. like some guns have single shot, burst and full auto etc. but I've always liked this. However it can be annoying in MP picking up a gun you think is set to full auto then trying to spray someone realising its set to single, but they could always make it so that the gun 'resets' to default fire mode i.e. Full auto.
    • I've not played any games that tell part of the story from the Axis side. Having a few missions (maybe even side-missions, which lead to two different endings) would be a fun perspective. Imagine having to defend against an attack from the Brits, and if you win the mission then you wouldn't play as Brits for the following mission, instead you'd play as Russians somewhere else, but if you lost the mission you'd play as the Brits who just conquered that territory.
    • If the single player had 'various' endings, or 'various' ways to complete a mission - this would be a good thing. Since the CoD series has always been 'follow this route, do this' - it's never really given you the option to choose different paths, however they did try this with CoD4 a little bit, with the innocent guy who's about to get shot by the barn scene.
    • I always liked Retrieval gametype in CoD1, I think a mission where you need to retrieve documents behind enemy lines would be good, where you'd need to retreat under heavy fire, then get one of your teammates to call for backup from the tanks once your a bit clear of danger.
    • Campaign style gametype, with a very large map. Teams would spawn where the 'battle' is currently being fought - and they'd push each other forward/backward in hopes of gaining more territory. They'd need to do various things to win the "campaign." Such as Allies = Destory Flak in part 1 of battle, Capture and hold MG Entrenchment system for part 2, and then finally push the Axis beyond the bridge and setting up a defense on the bridge (since it's a major bridge). Whereas Axis, would need to push the Allies back, destory any Tanks, hold the MG system, or blow up the bridge. Each objective would be hidden, and Axis can't blow the bridge instantly, only when their spawn is pushed back beyond the bridge would they be able to spawn with a bomb to blow the bridge. Same for Allies, they only get the bomb to blow bridge if they're spawn is at the bridge. A complex gametype, but if well designed - could be very good to play online.
    • The battlefield gametype with the "ticker/flags" has always been fun. A concept similar to that would be good. Or at least something with 'choose your spawnpoint' for the map.
    • Whether they have vehicles in CoD5 is unknown, but I wouldn't mind seeing some vehicles. UO Worked well in my opinion, if they added more vehicles it would have just been another BF game. If they were to add vehicles - I'd only suggest transport vehicles and Tanks to be used by players in MP. With Planes that are run by AI.
    • MP Bots, I've always liked this idea :)
    • Co-op mode, this too :)
    • I'm not a huge fan of all the CoD4 perks, but I do like the ability to customise your character e.g. player is a good sprinter so should be able to use extreme conditioning perk. What I'd suggest would be training type perks. Which you would earn by completing boot camp type training. The more running you do, you unlock a longer sprint perk to be picked for your character. If you keep getting headshots in the sniper range, you'd unlock a better scope or a better camo for MP or something.
    • Whenever I picture WW2, I picture dirty, bloody, wet, gore... so it would be cool if a bomb was dropped infront of you, which landed on a few teamates - to explode and show blood, dirty, gore marks around the place, maybe even hit you on the face (showing up on screen) - I know that's been modded and whatnot, but it would be cool if it only happened 'on the off chance' rather then all the time. Like only if the bomb is a direct hit through the player, not if its near the player.
    • Weapon jamming, I know it would be extremely annoying in MP, but in SP it might not be too bad, as long as it doesn't occur too frequently.
    • A battle recorder like BF, so you could record the full battle and then replay it and spectate around eveywhere/spectate certain players. Tho clan gaming leagues might need to mod this as some top clans might want to keep there set nades or tactics secret to other clans, but it would make for some awesome movies and would help prevent cheating.
    • CoD TV, the ability to watch an MP game without being in the server.
    • If no CoD TV, a live scorebot system, where servers would broadcast text to some "ftp site" or the ability to watch the server via UDP Queries, like PAM4 sets pam_ticker - would be cool if this was a default feature
    • Statistics, player stats on how many shots you've taken/hit, deaths/kills, longest time alive, distance travelled etc. - Like GTA.
    • Some sort of mission based in a submarine, I know it's been done a few times before tho, but not recently.
    • Not exactly directed at the game, but Map tools that are slightly easier to use, or more prefabs built, with terrain type prefabs so you could pretty much piece a good 'unique' map together easily, however this may lead to an increase in 'bad' maps, but would help new players to mapping.

I can't think of anymore at the moment...

    For MP.
Would love to see CoD: United Offensive over agein, with CoD4 graphics and character movements. Also like the perk system, put it this way just like CoD4 but WWII in the Pacific with Tanks, Jeeps (no F@#%en planes).

i would like more sophisticated hit detection for example, you can get shot in the stomach, the heart, the liver, etc...

        No ranking system.

Some sort of mix-n-match skin system, with stock, pre-made components you can use to create a unique look would be nice. This was one of the major appealing factors back in MOHAA/SH.

Working doors would be another addition I'd like, as they vastly change the way MP is played (for the better, IMO). Maybe even an option to run the map with or without doors.

Back to separate weapon groups for each side...you can pick up the weapon from a fallen enemy, but each team only has a limited selection to start with (as in MOH).

I hope they do all of these in COD6 or whatever modern version is next, too.

Re: Features you'd like to see

Totally forgot about working doors, it's just been so long since MOHAA and have just got used to 'doors always open' heh... Tho some custom maps have working doors, but it should be stock feature...

Allied/Axis weapons should definetly be in...

I like the Rank system for CoD4 as it allows modders to create there own rank databases, however it should be tweaked. Maybe base it only on objectives and not much on kills, unless the kill is 'skilled.' Like with R6:V2 - If you get a long range kill it adds to your marksman skill level. In CoD4 they could use different skill levels, which add up to give you an overall rank. Players who plant bombs + defend the bomb etc. get more skills for objective based level. Whereas people who aim and line up there shots for a one shot kill to the head get more skills for marksman based level. Players who run in and get a bunch of players get aggresive assault based level. I dunno...

Mustard/Poison gas with gas masks might be fun (maybe not for MP tho)

Persistent ranking discourages people from running mods and custom maps because in order to run any custom content you must run a mod and many people don't like having to recreate their loadouts (myself included) for every round that they play.

Even if that wasn't the case, the majority of people would still stick with ranked servers. Just look at the percentages that play BF2 mods or any other ranked game's mods. If you look at CoD and United Offensive, however, there are more servers running mods and custom maps than servers that have no custom content.

Re: Features you'd like to see

Right, well how about server ranks PER server? No "default rank servers" - You'd join a server and you'd start as a Pvt... - However you wouldn't unlock anything, you'd simply gain rank till you reach General. (also they'd need to use ranks from WW2 - and ranks should be dependant of side too, like British has LCpl, Russians have Efr. etc)

However, the only problem with that is, you'd quit from a server then reconnect and be at Pvt again when you rejoin... since if it were to store your rank for that server on each clients computer they'd end up with loads of useless files from servers they've been in once but won't ever go in again... and if it were saved on the server, well that's probably adding a new type of "log" which the server would have to "check" whenever someone joins. I guess this is more feasable but some servers would have thousands of stored players+guids which they won't actually need.

I'm not sure how it'd work, but I'd like some sort of rank system which can be modded... eitherway the rank system did bring replay value to multiplayer. More people would try MP, and try to get to Lvl 55, and complete the tasks before they decided they were done with MP. However if there was a way to link modded servers (which haven't touched the rank system) to stock servers, that'd be good. I'm sure that's the easiest way. Allowing for modders who wish to create a rank system for there servers, and still allowing 'smaller' mods which don't touch on the rank system to still benefit from using the 'stock' rank system linked in with 'stock' servers.

I think it was a little back step from UO to CoD2...I was missing running and deployable machine guns. A comeback for them would be great.

Totally forgot about doors, they made game so much better.

No need for claymores when sniping, if you herd a door open you knew to turn around and get the pistol out.

I think unlocks would be fine if implemented how cod4 is, if its like the BF series at all than absolutely not.

                    Perks would be nice.

CTF and HQ modes out of box.

More maps of same quality as CoD4 maps (minus shipment).

                    Thats all I got.

id love to have a cover option like in Gears of war where you go near a wall press a button and your in third person and can shoot from the saftey of a door

Third person view isn't really too good for clan matches - imagine attacking on a map and all the defending team has to do is hide behind the walls, they'll be able to see you coming and just jump out and headshot you... but nonetheless and idea is an idea :) so keep em coming...

Being a fan of the cover system I really have to say that it shouldn't flow over into CoD5. This system just doesn't fit to the more faced-paced CoD games.

lol why? In 2009 CoD4 GFX will be like BF2/2142 today. I'd expect Crysis graphics as standard in 2009. Not to mention they are always late so no doubt it will nearly be 2010.

If ranked, keep the rankings as for CoD 4 so they are no hassle to the MP game like for BF2.

Working doors for sure add alot of fun and tactics. This also applies to destroyable windows/wood panels and so on. Some destroyable environment could be a plus (not only as a 'technical gadget').

                              +1 for deployable MG's too.

What I'd like the most is bigger maps in general. IMO CoD4 maps are perfect for up to 16 players. With more than this, you face things like spawnkilling (even unwanted) or "grenade rains" I don't like (I'm an "oldschool" mohaa fan, I play only hardcore in CoD4 and 90% of the time S&D).

Have less nades than 3 (1 or 2 at max even with perks).

Spread spawnpoints a little for Saint Frag's sake !!! this is the only irritating thing I find to CoD4, being blocked by someone who's afk or just dumb

Keep all the good from CoD4. CoD4 is a terrific game.
