BF2 choppy after fresh install of XP

I had to reinstall XP recently and after doing so BF2 is more choppy now than before the fresh install. I notice this the most when I'm trying to guide a TV missile, it's very choppy and hard to guide.

I'm kinda stumped as to why the game is choppy now when it was fine before my reinstall. Same hardware, same drivers etc.

I've tried reinstalling BF2, not installing Special Forces or the booster packs. I've tried several other video card drivers as well. Nothing seems to help.

I don't know what to do since everything is setup the same as it was before.

There might be one thing you have overlooked after reformatting, that is hampering your performance.

    Please list your hardware.

It could be the drivers you installed for your gfx card are not as good as the ones you had installed previously on xp.
Also if you haven't installed pb services or updated pb, this will cause stuttering as it tries to update itself ingame.

I have the exact same drivers as my previous install. I did update PB, but no change.

        My hardware:

        Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
        Geforce 6800gt SLI

Do you by any chance have an X-Fi soundcard?

                Here's some more info.

This problem only happens when I join an online server. If I make my own server the choppiness isn't a problem. When I join an online server --even if it has zero players in it-- I get the choppiness. My FPS is almost exactly the same between a created server and an online server.

It's not a router or firewall issue, because I already tried turning off my firewall and unhooking my router.
