Hey,

Just a question.. why does FSX run soo damn bad??.. i don't play it but my step father does on his pc which consists of..

4GB Corsair XMS2 RAM
E6850 3GHz
8800GT
ASUS P5K-E

and its jumpy as all hell and to add insult to injury the graphics are just depressing.. so what causes this game to run soo bad? its not that far off flight sim 98 imo.

The ground is pretty much just a multi colored un textured mat.. and the cokpit of the plane isn't anything special.. so i just can't see why its soo demanding.

I don't know, I've experience a lot of choppiness as well with FSX, even tho my machine is pretty decent. Maybe its because you can see so far and the game doesn't prioritize which object should be generated and which one shouldn't, at a given time, therefore it tries to do it simultaneously. They tried to put too much detail in the surroundings, in a game thats more about the aircraft then the scenery.

The game plays good if you turn down the graphics, I myself rather sacrifice eye candy for gameplay.

but even with the highest settings the graphics are just terrible.. i could only imagine how it would play with decent graphics.. ud be averaging 2-3 fps i guess.

I can play it at medium-high on my rig at 1280x1024. I average about 25FPS which I can handle. It doesn't look THAT bad does it? But then again, it's probably because I've installed add-on scenery and the likes.

well i guess i was just disappointed because a few reviews i had read before buying it were saying stuff like "the graphics are incredible" and the one that sold me.. "u can actually see people and cars moving around the streets" so i was expecting some uber realism flight sim.. and what i got was just crap lol... sorry i cant describe this games graphics in any nicer way.. and YES i do know it is a flight sim and the point of the game isnt to be eye candy but rather a simulator for flying.. but seriously they can do better than that...

1) Turn Auto-Gen off
2) Don't play at massive res's
3) The game is designed to be played well into the future look at how long FS9 was being played.
4) Tweak around with the mesh res
5) Play something less geeky?

ROFL.. i don't play it >.< its my stepdads game.. id play inkball sooner than playing a flight sim :p

I used to lag a lot in it, but after a reformat and quick check of background processes, it's smooth sailing :)

Love the game to death, although it's more fun when you're flying with friends...

Example:

*Me and my friend flying around in the FA/18, pull up next to a random jet*

"Airbus 002, this is Navy 01, you are unauthorized to enter this airspace, we have been directed by Chicago Tower to escort you back to runway 04, over."

Endless laughs as the other pilot has no idea what's going on :)

Inkball... lol. id never thought i would have to hear that game again. I think i had an addiction at one point as i would lose, close and then open it again. im thankful i removed it from the start menu

Install FSX SP1. If you haven´t, that is a must.

I have mine running nice now. Its all about tweaking your settings.

Bloom and water High 2x are the big FPS killers. I have water on Low 2x I think and it looks awesome. With the bloom and the high water each scene has to be drawn twice iirc.

If you want the scenery to look better, I reccomend getting some addons such as photographic scenery, or just decent ground texture upgrades. A good freeware one for your neck of the woods is Vista Australis (google it).

Even so the scenery isn't that bad; just bear in mind that it simply isn't possible to map the whole planet in Crysis-like detail.

And Kodak... I'm fairly sure such behaviur would get you banned from Vatsim.
