Do Northern Strike Badges give regular Unlocks?

I just started playing this game and I just bought Nothern Strike. I have maybe half of the unlocks so far. I read somewhere that you can get the Norternstrike unlocks by simply getting the badges.

Is that just for people who have all the unlocks already or will the badges give me vanilla unlocks as well?

It just gives you an "Unlock Point" which can be used just like any other unlock.
