    new problem WMP11 & DVD

I have the same problem on Vista 64 and XP x86

I put in a DVD and windows media player gives me this crap. Its Vista Home Premium so DVD decoders are supposed to be installed already. And XP has always played DVDs so I don't get it. I've looked around on the web... maybe not hard enough, but this is for the techies or someone thats fixed the issue. WMP 11 gives me this:

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

I have the latest drivers for my 7950GT, so now what? The DVD is a legal store bought copy by the way. Funny, it plays my Divx stuff no problem.

    thanks

Have you got the correct region set on your DVD drive?

Just download and install the VLC media player and be done with WMP11 for DVDs.

Mine is set to "region 2", United Kingdom. Make sure yours is set. Access that menu by right clicking your CD drive and clicking properties.

i thought this was the issue. But I thought a while a go I flashed my DVD drive to be universal but maybe thats causing the issue. I played a movie fine like a week ago. I just don't get it.

Flashing DVD drives is a bad, bad idea. They brick so easily, and, i fear, it may have broken compatibility with WMP.

I flashed it like well over a year ago. And CD/DVD RW drives cost what... 35 bucks. Its not quite the same as flashing a video card. I don't get why it would jsut start doing this.

Install something like PowerDVD to give it the proper system files it needs to read the DVD.

Yeah, but new updates can mean they become incompatible easily.

btw, my whole family lives in Surrey and Hampshire, so I get a lot of DVDs that aren't NTSC. Thats why I always try to universal my DVD players, no matter how illegal it supposidly is.

It can be done via software, rather than flashing.
