Only in the movies, but in RL- no. Supressor only supresses the blast sound from the muzzle and is truly effective only with subsonic ammo. You cant supress the sound of the moving parts within the rifle and each gun has its own distinctive sound.

Gun sounds are by far COD4s weakest point. You get used to it, eventually.

Do you hear the moving parts so well for it to matter?

Anyways, i think PR is the only game i've played that got the gun shounds just about right:

AFAIK, the main purpose of a supressor (atleast in the military) is actually to reduse muzzle flash.
A suppressor or sound moderator is a device attached to a firearm to reduce the amount of noise and flash generated by firing the weapon. It generally takes the form of a cylindrically-shaped metal tube that is fit onto the barrel of the firearm, with various internal mechanisms to reduce the sound of firing by slowing the escaping propellant gas, and sometimes by reducing the velocity of the bullet. [1] [2]

Suppressors are also popularly known as "silencers", though no suppressor completely eliminates the noise of discharging a firearm.[1]

The muffler for internal combustion engines was developed in parallel with the firearm suppressor by Hiram Maxim, using many of the same techniques to provide quieter-running engines.
Also significant is the alteration of the firing sound to something that is not identifiable as a gun shot, reducing or eliminating attention drawn to the shooter (hence the Finnish expression: "A silencer does not make a rifleman silent, but it does make him invisible").
The suppressor also has the often-neglected benefit that it reduces muzzle flash by as much as 90%. This is very important as much fighting takes place at night, and soldiers are commonly trained to identify and shoot at muzzle flashes in combat.
                            Off wikipedia

Proper positioning of the shooter to cause the bullet to pass close by one or more hard objects can add to the enemy's confusion as the muffled shot will be veiled by the sonic crack which will seem to come from multiple locations as a result of it bouncing off hard objects.
When measured beside beside shooter's ear (hearing protection position) the correlation to both side position seems to be negative with most measured suppressors. Those suppressors having exceptionally good shooter's attenuation may produce low or average side attenuations and good side attenuator suppressors may be average or insufficient for shooter's hearing protection. Declaration to this is: Although a correctly designed suppressor is able to absorb sound energy relatively to it's size, the remaining sound escaping the suppressor can be directed to different directions depending on suppressor design. If designed and optimized for good shooter's noise attenuation the remaining escaping sound energy is usually directed to other directions like to the side. This acts also vice versa: Trimming a suppressor for good side attenuation may result to more sound directed towards the shooter
Never tried SWAT 4. Looks a bit old and CSish
Its a 2005 year game, and at "HIGH" graphics settings still beats many modern games. As for calling it CS-ish..., Jesus H. Christ.

Like i said, never actually played it, but from screenshots and such it did look kinda CS-ish.

But after reading a review ill pull that back
