I don't have the models folder in there?

Yes, you have to create the models & weapons folders, etc. Some servers block the custom skins, so test them out in a local server. Though only weapon skins seem to be blocked, not player skins, when I go on specific servers.

Unlike CS:S though, TF2 will only relegate you back to the default skins, it won't keep you from joining. If your skin uses a custom model though, like, say, the dice or TNT skin for sticky bombs, it will make your weapon (or in this case, the sticky bombs) invisible. Which sucks. Nothing like not knowing where any non-crit sticky is.

They actually aren't invisible, you see am outline of the model, though that only happens on certain servers. Usually either all weapon skins are reverted back to the default or the skins are allowed.



You see that the custom model of the axe is blocked but the outline of it remains.

Intel in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<Steam Name>\team fortress 2\tf\materials\models\flag




Usually when you download a skin they come in a series of folders like tf/materials/models/weapons, it gives you a clue as to where the skins should be located.
