Are you playing on full 32 player servers?

Try ones with a max of 24 and as little as 16.
I usually don't play on larger ones.

You also have to get used to the fact that this isn't the same kind of game as the BF or COD series, accept that, get past it, and start enjoying it!

Exactly, I can't enjoy TF2 when more then 16 total people are on the server.

The optimum imo is actually 5-6 man teams, everyone has a vital role, one person's mistake can brake a stalemate, as can one kill streak.

I find that if you want to take the game into your hands offensively, the best classes to play are scout & demo, demo to get through sentries, and scout to rip through everything else. To plug a hole in defense, almost any class will do, engi or HW obviously, but also pyro, soldier, and scout as an intercept for stolen intel or falling CP's. For ctf maps, spy's can make for some hilarious-yet-effective defense as well. (For example, a scout stopped outside 2fort's intel room because of a sentry, disguise as a demo and....)

24 player server I find are just the right size, but for some reason after a round or when the level changes I find that a server can empty.

I remember I was playing on a server a 24 player few days ago, it was full but after the round ended, practically everyone left.



Had a crap k/d ratio on that round after a bunch of failed flag captures

I love TF2 but unfortunately it is touch and go whether I can get a game atm because of my dam PC.

I love the smaller servers because the large ones, especially on capture the intel can get into a stalemate as you stated in your post. Try the 24 players and below servers and try some custom made maps!

24 man is just right tbh larger servers with instaspawn, birthday mode ****e suck, too many people on the maps and theres too much spam, it isnt very enjoyable compared to the hectic yet somewhat controlled sense of pace on a 24man

To each his own, but I dislike it when I can't see all the people gunning for me. I'm more of a duelist I guess.

When it's 5-6 man teams, there's less variables to get in the way of my stratagies.

It's also a lot easier to sneak around.

True, but if it's easier for both teams, that still makes it balanced.

There's a fine line between difficult to break defense and an impossible to break stalemate. I prefer to err on the side of caution.

Also, TF2 has some pretty good custom maps, suprisingly balanced, even some the non-symmetrical ones. I recommend cavein, that one stands out in my mind, as well as lazy_town and sunset_town. The orange_x maps are nice too if it's one of those low grav servers, otherwise it's sniper bait.
