The DPI on a mouse

Gotta say love gettin a H/s. but this mouse i have doesnt cut it. bout to buy a new mouse next week and was lookin ga t G-5 and G9. G5 is 2000 DPI and G9 is 3200DPI. want to kno exactly what DPI is and which one will be better.

Its Dots Per Inch, like a monitor, but instead of how many colors being displayed, its how many points can be traced on the service the mouse sits on.

I use the G5 mouse (Version 1, get version 2 if you go for the G5) and I play it on 1800DPI. Any higher and the slightest movement will throw my curser really far. I actually like to play sniper with it lower because it smooths the movement and makes it more precise. Maybe thats backwards than most play it, I dont know.

The othe rgood thing about the G series mice is you can change the DPI on the fly, so if a setting is too touchy for you, you can lower it down.

Thats the same with my mouse..It less expensive than the "proper" mice but i alos have dpi on-the-fly switch to switch between 0.8k dpi, 1.6k dpi and 2k dpi...I used to play on 800 and people used to thing i was weird..I now play on 1600 on cod4..its fine..but Bf2 i have to tone back down to 800..Oh and btw i have a Sharkoon rush mouse...Its comfy :P

Thats a good point, Hellsent, there is no such thing as a "proper" mouse. Get one with the features you want and its feel. You'll be using it, not anyone else

I chose the G5 because I like Logitech mice. All the other mice I have had, did weird things in the end or didnt last long for me.

Cost is one consideration.

Another thing to think about is what your current mouse sensitivity/play-style is. 2000 dpi is already very sensitive. 3200 dpi is obviously more sensitive, but unless you're someone with "twitch" reflexes (like a high-level competitive player), you may not notice a difference between 2000 and 3200.

What is your current mouse-sensitivity like in the game...what is your mouse-slider set to in the menu? And what is the dpi of your current mouse?

If your slider isn't set all the way to high, and the mouse you have now isn't a high dpi, then the G5 might be a better choice for you. If you do have extreme reflexes and already have your slider cranked up, then maybe the G9 is something to think about (for most people though, this level of sensitivity is a waste).

One thing I do see posted fairly often, is that many players like having the "switch" on the mouse, that will toggle between a high dpi for fast action, and a low dpi for precise movements (ie. sniping).

Well i dont see how anybody can play with a 2000 dpi, i have mine set to 500 lol

I'm currently using 2500 DPI, however my mouse moves very little on the mouse pad compared to how much it moves on the screen. my problem is that my space for mouse pad is limited so I have to make up for this by increasing the DPI. The affect is that I only have to move the mouse a touch for big movement on screen, only problem is that you now have to become aware of how much to move in respect to how sensitive the mouse has become.
