Have a look at rFactor - may not have the most up to date graphics (not on par with GT), but the realism, damage and physics are just as good if not better. You'll need to get yourself a wheel to play it properly tho.

Plus the modding side of the game means you can get almost any type of racing class you want (touring cars, open wheel etc). The Multiplayer side is also very good, with leagues and championships being operated.
