Staging a full assault with airdrops.

Does anyone remember the ability for the utility chopper to hover over a tank or other piece of ground equipment and airdrop it somewhere in Battlefield Vietnam? I think that was a pretty forward thinking feature, albeit one which as almost never used.

I'd like to see a map where the US starts at sea and airlifts equipment off of a supply island or off the carrier. It'd implement a completely new degree of tactics needed - you'd have to RIB troops over to the area to secure a LZ from the Militia or Insurgents first to be able to safely drop armor, trucks, etc. Not to mention that it'd be really useful to be able to use a Blackhawk or something like that to airdrop a badly needed APC or IFV right into the action for your troops. Of course, if you drop it from too high an altitude or if the chopper which is carrying the vehicle is destroyed, the vehicle is damaged or destroyed. I'd also make it so that you couldn't pick up vehicles which had players in them; this would hopefully prevent some abuse.

I get the distinct feeling that this is definitely moddable, and it's something which I feel would fit right in with PR.

Why exactly would that be impossible?

its not possible to do this with the BF2 engine, the way BFV had it.

the only thing we can do is abit like how we drop supply crates from trucks, cars and choppers is to spawn it, but ehh I dont think much is air lifted by choppers now than supplys, cars and small to medium sized bits of equipment.

that tank in BFV was a tank made to be really, really light so it could be air lifted by choppers but I dont think they make any tanks just for that purpose these days.

What do you mean? Are you saying a UH-60 can't lift an Abrahms??!?!?

So essentially you can't, with code, arbitrarily set the position of an already spawned item and get the coordinates of another already moving item?

unless you can spawn a jeep, along with a few supply crates which is supposedly going to be implemented in the community made *cough**cough**cough*

I'll say it if they don't. A UH-60 CAN NOT airlift a MBT (Main Battle Tank). They do not have the capability to lift such a heavy object.

Airlifting MBTs is mainly conducted by fixed wing aircraft, although there are some heavy-lift helos capable of transporting certain armored vehicles.

a Globemaster can only carry one MBT, and that plane is bloody huge

got a C-130 model hanging around? if we had then we would most likely make a map for something like that :p
