Another case of CTD

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and like alot of people i have trouble playing bf2 on my desktop (vista home premium 32-bit).
I have already updated my video and sound card drivers and i have the latest version of directX. I also run bf2 as an administrator and it is running compatibel with windows XP (service pack 2).
My problem is that it will run smoothly for a short while (varying between 30 sec. to half an hour) after which it just CTD's with no error report at all.
I also tried playing in different resolution and refresh rates, but didn't change anything

My computer specs:
Dell Inspiron 531
2.80 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+
3 GB RAM
256 MB ATI Radeon HD 2600XT

Unfortunatley this is one of BF2 many annoying bugs.

You mean directX 9 right?? not directX10...BF2 will only run on 9, not 10.

Well I have directX 9 since it gets installed with the game but after it started crashing i upgraded to dX 10 and the game still runs, but only for a short time.

Usually I get no error message when bf2 crashes yet sometimes i get a pop-up that my computer is searching for a solution but comes with nothing. So I checked my error log and found to kinds of report one being relating to a programcompatability with BF2.exe titled PCA2 and another one which is just the message "program not working" (APPCRASH)

OK I finally fixed the problem. In the end there was nothing wrong with the game my hardware or vista. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it but now mounting a bf2 mini image when playing in stead of using a ***** crack. turns out the crack might not have worked properly.

You mean directX 9 right?? not directX10...BF2 will only run on 9, not 10.

Regardless if you have only DX10 installed it is backwards compatible. So your fine.

nope...BF2 wont even launch if DX9 is not installed.

I have DX10 installed and just let the computer do the 'upgrade' of DX9 when asked while installing bf2.

Anyways I fixed the problem now. Seems like it didn't have anything to do with my sustem specs or direct X. It's possible that I was just using a bad ***** crack.

I reinstalled the game (yet again) but instead of using a crack I just mount a bf2 mini image while playing and didn't have any crashes since. I can even play on highest resolutions and everything.

But thanks people anyways. And it might be worth a try if people suffer from crashes after having joined a server.
