FPS Problems... :(

Ok, so I have had COD4 since christmas and i've just started getting into it, although it seems a little unplayable as even when i put all settings to the lowest of the low and try different configs and computer settings my framerate never goes above 25, usually averages around 15 - 20 fps a round, which annoys me because i know people are always saying they get around 60 fps and above. I haven't had my computer all that long (a year), so i think it would be stupid to say that the system is too old?!

However, i am thinking of getting a new graphics card because i think that might solve the problem, here are my system specs:

Dual Intel Pentium 2.4Hz
Windows XP
Realtek High Definition Audio
Nvidia GeForce 6600 LE
1Gb Ram
ATI Motherboard

If you bought that computer a year aga, you was raped, that computer in my view is atleast three years old.

Your graphics card is the down point, also one gig of ram is not enough and that processor is dated.

If money is tight get another 1 GB of RAM and a better gfx card, look at getting atleast a 7900GT.

If money is not tight, get a whole new system start from scratch.

As above, your video card is definitely a major bottleneck and you need an upgrade. Be sure that whichever one you pick, that it is compatible with your specific model of motherboard (AGP, PCI, PCI-e, etc).

An extra 1GB of RAM will also help gaming in general (loadtimes, etc).

FYI - It really doesn't matter when you actually bought your computer, because the components inside of it are of different ages.

In my opinion,

1) vid card

2) RAM

3) CPU (processor)

in that order. Your card really is quite far down on the ladder. Again though, be very careful that the card you get is compatible with your mobo (motherboard) in terms of what type of connection slots it uses.

Just out of curiosity, do you play a lot of games on your PC, or just a few here and there? If you don't use your PC a lot for gaming, that should guide you in how much you want to spend on new hardware.

I'd go with the vid card first. I have a 5 year old pc with less ram, and I average 40-45 fps at 1024x768. As said above, geforce 7950gt is a good card, but if your in a pinch, 7600gt or gs will work. I got my 7600gs on ebay for just under $100.

Definitely a new GFX card first and then the ram. I'd say at least a 7 series from Nvidia or higher.
