The ram tweak is only for XP. See, XP by default only addresses 4GB of ram including video ram. I forget which settings to change but a google will do it. For Vista I don't think it's an issue.

As for the stereoscopic, you don't specifically need the glasses for it to work. Hell you could use the red blue cardboard glasses and it'd work. I think the cross-eyed view is available too. What I was really hinting at though is that you should buy a pair of shutter glasses. You can get em for like 10 bucks on ebay. But then again you need a CRT. It really is a good way to use up any extra FPS.

It's an issue for any 32-bit OS, as far as I know.

It's not for XP.

32-bit OS's can see a Max of 4 GB of RAM MINUS the amount of space reserved for system devices (although the figure is related to your video RAM, it's not actually that number at all), which in practice means you'll get between 2.75 - 3.25 GB of RAM on a 32-bit OS if you have 4 GB of RAM. Of course, some get higher and some get lower.

To change this you can use PAE, however this is slow and buggy and really only suitable for a server environment.

As I already have 64-bit Vista this isn't an issue.

3D Glasses sound like a total waste of time. I dislike CRT's immensly, and already have 2 TFT's (although i'd like to upgrade to 3 for Triple Screen BF2!).

Looks like you know more about the ram than me. I haven't had to worry about it at 3 gigs. Not to mention my outdated hardware and software. I just noticed the 4 gigs and remembered there was an issue. Thanks for the info.

Don't bash 3d glasses. Not until you've flown a chopper with them. Yeah I have CRTs. I'm poor. I've used LCDs, they're neat. But the only real advantages I can see are size and weight. Everything else seems like a disadvantage unless you spend a lot of money; lower resolutions, lower refresh rates, etc. Really I'm not sure why the glasses dont work on them; obviously they are capable of outputting the right images. I don't really see what there is to hate about CRTs. I see them as free high performance monitors.

BTW how does tripple screens work in BF2? It couldn't be stretched... Is it like the widescreen mod or does it create seperate cameras like in stereo? Very curious.

lol its bf2! its past its time.. set all the options in the menu to high and the AA to x16.. and thats about it.. now wait till bf3 comes out :)

CRTs and LCDs display the image in a different way. An LCD has something akin to little lights that change color to match the image being displayed. A CRT draws the entire screen many times a second with light guns. The shutter glasses have the GPU put out a slightly different image each alternating frame. Then they alternate so the left eye and right eye see what they are supposed to. Since LCDs don't redraw the screen the same way, the glasses don't work.

If it's the one he's thinking of then yeah it is for XP. XP32bit may well be able to access / detect 4gig of RAM but as you said the max 4Gig also includes ALL the other addressable RAM of the system, however XP only assigns 2gig of Memory to anyone task. It is possible to to do a reg tweak to tell XP to assign more RAM to a task but since BF2 doesn't really need to use more than 2 Gig of RAM it would be an entirely pointless waste of time.

How do I do that?

Nvidia Tool Bar Icon ---> Right Click it and Select Nvidia Control Panel ----->

You'll need to select 'View' and then 'advanced' if this isn't the default ----->

From the tree menu at the side select 'Manage 3D settings' -----> This will bring up a selection of options in the main screen the one you're looking for is 'anti-aliasing transparency' from the drop down menu you can now select 'super sampling' once selected you can then click 'apply'.

I do.

It's not a "proper" Xeon. It's a desktop CPU (the unreleased Q6400/Q6420), but with the prefetchers "optimised" for Server use (~3% performance hit in games).

Why do I have a Xeon?

It was cheap. I got it for £119 used about 6 months ago. It's hot, it doesn't overclock that well and and no-one knows anything about it, but it was cheap.
