Low Fps

Doesn't matter what gfx options I select when trying to play, even going down to as low as 640x480 with everything off, I get very low fps at the most maybe 10.

My rig is:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz
Nvidia 8800gtx 768mb
2gb ram
windows xp
a good 80gb free on the drive, and no fragmentation at all.

running latest drivers for the gfx card, tried updating punkbuster thats the latest too.

just can't figure out why cod4 gives me increadibly low fps, and it chunks every few seconds like it was lag. but I've tried on empty servers getting a 30 ping and it does the same thing.

anyone got any ideas?

Youre specs are good, so I suspect software running that is slowing everything down.

You have everything shut off software wise? Antivirus, spyware programs, Xfire? To help narrow it down, you can shut these off and see what happens. Also, have you checked youre machine to make sure it was virus/spyware free?

There is a button about re-checking your system and resetting the settings, you might run that to see if that works.

I *think* I read somewhere about deleting a config_mp.mp file and it helping on that. I would do a search for that first before actually deleting anything though.

ya nothing major is running in the background.

but I got it fixed anyway, on a whim I re-install my vid card driver and that seems to of cleared it up. I know I was already running that exact version because I just used the install file I had archived.

so who knows what was up with the game.

Problems like this are quite often driver-related, as you discovered...even if the correct drivers seem to already be loaded. Not sure why, but re-installing them often fixes the problem.

For future, also be aware that Nvidia has "Beta" drivers on their site, as well as the "official" releases. Sometimes it's worth trying the Beta's if you find a graphics issue that doesn't want to fix itself.
