Microphone or sound card upgrade

I NEED to upgrade either my sound card or microphone, when i try and record anything i just get a hissing noise which is over powering my actual voice ffs.

Does anyone have any idea's if it would be my sound card or microphone thats causing the problem?

Current Hardware:

Onboard Sound: Realtek HD

Microphone: AGK Headphone & Microphone headset

I suspect it might be the microphone. Buy a cheap one for £fiver, then you'll know.
