How to get the best out of SL drones.

Hi, I am posting this because i have all unlocks and the 2 drones Squad leader unlock are by far the one i never used. Probably because i dont know how to exploit them at there best. The Sentry gun Drones... is it really useful exept for giving your position to the NME. So far i have 3 kills with it over 320 hours played on Bf2142. I just gave up on this one, I think it would be probably more deadly if i had good team mates that could actually spot NME's for my drone to shot, But spotting an NME when he already saw me, always gets me killed. Anyways the real point of this post is how to use the First drone, that as far as i know never did ****!... is it supposed to scan NME's or something?! or just to look cool. And if there is a way to activate it I would love to know... because every technology on the field always help alot.

    thx

Just deploy it and it will give you scans every xx # of seconds and put a diamond where the enemies are at that point. If you have a squad that sticks close together, like they should, it is extremely helpful. Especially on maps like Camp G. A UAV shows on your minimap where they are, but doesn't tell you whether they are on the ground, 2nd floor, wall, etc... The Otus shows exactly where they are. Plus, with the new patch, if it gets destroyed by a doorway you can just redeploy it.

Use the otus drone especially when defending

Yes, it does a scan and the red diamond shows up on all your squadmates screens. For added fun, have yourself or a squadmate put an IDS on it for a mini-mobile UAV.

To take those means you go without a spawn beacon. This means squadmembers won't be spawning next to you to attack or defend. As much as you think the otus or accipiter might be cool, you will be hurting the rest of your team.

The ability of your squad to spawn on you and stick together is immense. Plus on defense, you have a good chance in a squad of 5-6 of having a support guy with the mini-uav, which is as good as the otus (though stationary).

I say this only because I take great pleasure in whacking the doods with those little buzzy flying things around their heads.

Not true, they can still spawn directly on you, as long as you are alive. It is actually better as when they come in on a beacon it can be seen/heard easily and when they spawn on you they just appear. Plus, when the battle moves on, they continue to spawn on you, instead of wherever the beacon is. If you have ever been in a good squad with an Otus, you would know how valuable it is. This means the SL doesn't lead the charge into battle, but holds back. A good squad with 3-4 medics and a support or two can keep each other alive for a long time. The added benefit of knowing where the enemy is helps.

The IDS is good, but it doesn't tell you what level they are on, which is important on maps like Camp Gib. The combination of the two is much better. Spawning on the SL is much better than spawning on a beacon. (There's a reason you don't see beacons used much in competitive matches.)

make sure you don't use (ahh whats that name) that turret drone when your recon.

I find that their almost more trouble than their worth. For some reason I can't seem to keep mine alive, I'm constantly having to re-deploy it, and the red triangles it puts down updates so slowly that they are more distracting than useful. The only time I've really gotten much use out of it, is when I go support, and drop the Infantry detector on it. Add a Vehicle detector to that as well, and it actually becomes useful.

A good SL can hold back if he's got an Otus or not, but that one's obvious. In fact, a better squad leader in that sort of position wouldn't use an otus as it would prohibit him hiding (as it emits a semi-loud noise every so often, and is floating above his head - a tuned player can pick that out easily). I have used it on multiple occasions on larger public servers as when your squad is literally powering through with you, knowing where the enemies are is more important although the 2-3 second delay on the diamonds is annoying. On a smaller server I'd go without though, use my ears to pick out the enemy.

the otus can become quite annoying on a server with lots of players with small maps, due to the overkill of diamonds. also, it only updated every ten secs or something, so you don't know the exact location. but after all its a good drone.

if you are support i say screw the otus, the dystek is alot faster and cooler to use... and it works with the accipter

just seen i'm like 100 in the world with it... comedy
