    Portal play problems

Just got Orange box, and I can play all the games great except Portal.

Its very laggy, even on the title screen its very slow. I dropped all the settings, turned off the firewall, virus protection, etc. but still can't get the game to run smoothly.

    Any ideas?

Nope, and I checked the Steam forums. Same thing is happening to others.

Apparently after the TF2 update people are reporting severe lag with TF2, Portal, and HFE2.

So I'm guessing it comes down to a driver update and if that doesn't work it must be something on steams end. I've tried everything else that comes to mind.

          Thanks for the help guys

Steam should release an update if other are having the same problem, they seem to be pouring out updates fot tf2.

Make sure you update your video card drivers. There's a good chance that's the problem.

Yeah, did that last night, went from 07.11 drivers to 8.2.... Still a no go.

I guess I have to wait for an update:cry:

I'm gonna suggest delting your steam folder and re-installing Steam but only as a last resort.

Ok, well I got it working. However, this worked for me(this isn't across the board) so what I did was I started up Portal, when to grab a snack when I came back 5 minutes later, the game was running smoothly. I thought I just lucked out, so I tried HLE2 and the same thing. Let it run for 2-5 minutes and boom, it started running normal.

So for the guys having issues, you could just load the game and let it "warm-up" like I did. Either way, its really annoying and I hope steam does something about it.

                    Thanks for the help guys!
