Display Driver Stopped Responding....

im getting the Error "Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered error" alot now, im getting it with Crysis and WoW aswell, wtf can i do to stop this as i cant play anymore cos of it,


P.S i do have the latest Nvidia Drivers

My first guess would be overheating. Install a cooler, and on my old PC which had this regularly, I:

* removed the fans from the case and cleaned them.
* removed the fan from the processor and cleaned it.

A cooler is still recommended if overheating is truely the cause which I suspect it is if you're suddenly getting this in graphically-intensive applications.

im having a hard time opening my case, i cant figure it out.

its a NZXT. Aplha Black with side panel, iv undone the thumb screws at the back
NVM, got it open, and no i didnt break the case :P

Ok so ive cleaned the Fans, and the Card, Moved the Fan side further away from my desk so its got more ventilation and of the problem persists i shall look for a good 8800 cooler.

While youre at it, checkdisk/defrag your harddrive and clean out your temp directories.

defragging now,

ive noticed i really only get it when ive play cyrsis for a hour or so, then i get the error with WoW and sometimes on my desktop, my guess is that crysis is making my card run alot more than its used to.

Couldn't you just uninstall your drivers, then install the newest...?

Its best to be thorough, Ccleaner Pro has multiple filters that completely remove the old drivers.

Of course if its a Vista PC like mine, most apps I have typically do the "not responding" deal. If SP1 doesn't fix my Vista indigestion its back to XP

I found that I had to do something with the nvlddmkm, can't quite remember what I did there, but if you copy the exact error into google then you should get an answer.

yes it is that error before, and i fixed it with the latest drivers, but it diodnt work this time,

but im not playing crysis so much now, and i havent received the error yet.

Turn of Aero (glass effects) when you play.
It was bug that was fixed in a previous driver release a while back but once in a blue moon it shows it's ugly head.

Whats up dude.. ive battled with that same exact problem (Nvidia display drivers stopped responding and has recovered successfully) for quite some time before finnaly gettin my vista 32 os running solid its a problem with the OS/nvidia drivers combo but ive also seen it happn with XP and also ppl using ATI GPU cards so its really pretty rediculas there are Thousands of different threats on this issure and neither VISTA nor NVIDIA has any solution

only way i got my pc working correctly is

format
installed fresh vista 32 bit os
installed all mobo drivers off disc
installed NEWEST nvidia drivers off nvidia's site
then all the vista 32 updates every single one of them....
then started installed games

for some reason in that order i got it to work very werid but i kno how frustrating that is and the fact that no company is takin blame nor have a solution and my vista 64 will no work period... the second i open a game DAM hits me the display driver error CRazyness... i hope that helped man :shakehead

(ive heard all the "turn off areo sceme" or "drivers arent updating over the old ones")Ive also had no problems after i oc'd a lil bit and my temps have gone up. none of this was the cause for mine. If you want to you can up the fan speeds on that 8800 with "Ntune" from nvidia really makes a BIG temp diff i have 2 8800 and the fans on 100% = about a 10 degree diff
