Iw3mp error

I just got the game, and when I try to open the multiplayer I get an 1w3mp error every time. What can I do to fix it?

Can you explain the problem more clearly? When does it happen? Also, post your system specs.

It happens whenever I try to open mp.

I'm running windows vista home premium, my gfx card and prossescor are in my profile.

I can play the singleplayer, yah. (Let me check what else it says.)

I am having the same problem. Everytime i try to open multiplayer mode it says about the opening it in safe mode i click yes or no then it blinks like a black then lighter black then again and shuts down says i have a 1w3mp error. I even reinstalled it and it still wont work. Any suggestions?

I had this problem before, with certain sound cards you need to plug in a microphone into the mic jack in order to play it. If that doesn't work then I don't know what is going on.

yea i have this prob to and it goes away as soon as i plug in my mic, so dont know hah

I'd ask over at Activision Support. Sounds odd to me.

I have a version of this problem more horrific than others it seems.

I can neither play single nor multiplayer and receive the same "iwmp3 has stopped working" error with the multiple black screens every single time I try to start the game.

I played the game fine on my XP machine, but when I upgraded to Vista, it has never worked.

I have reinstalled the game several times, reinstalled Vista, deactivated the sound card and installed another one, plugged mics in (even plugged in all possible 7.1 plugs on the back and front), renamed the asi file in the sound directory, installed several video drivers, several sound drivers, and a myriad of other "fixes." I have also e-mailed Activision and have never received a response. I have zero issues with other games (World in Conflict works perfectly, CIV4 BTS works perfectly, even games not designed for Vista work fine, only COD fails).

have you installed the Asus Gamer OSD (assuming it comes with your card) as this caused this problem for me and as soon as I uninstalled it the game started fine

Well I'll be damned...it was that damn ASUS OSD thing (plus some kind of DirectX error). Uninstalled SmartDoctor and OSD (as well as the outdated 8.1 ASUS driver), reinstalled with just normal ATI 8.2, then reinstalled COD4 and directX...and huzzah. Thanks for the help!

Another cause for this is sound card.

My friend has onboard sound on an msi board. I have onboard from a gigabyte.
both use some realtek thing, but we have different variations of the audio chipset.

Anyway, I can't run iw3mp.exe no problem. But if he tries the game crashes.
I stick a usb headphone in his pc. This actually installs as another sound card in the device manager.

Now the game works fine. Pull the usb headphones out, and the game crashes again.

A driver update for his onboard soundcard fixed the problem.
