Join server screen ?

hello all, very new to cod4, i was wanting to know what all the icons allong the top of the join server screen ment. and all the differant server colours, what do they mean and are there any specfic " beginer servers" because i'm getting slaughtered, and lastly..what does ping mean ? a link to somewhere that explains this wud be much appriciated

umm....well ping is having to do with your internet connection, come kid it ain't that hard, anyways, be more specific than just saying icons along the top, get us a screenshot, show us, and no server colors mean nothing {i think}

OK, from left to right...

- the "lock" symbol indicates if a server has a password or not (you cannot join without the password)
- the "tower" symbol indicates if a server is dedicated or not (dedicated servers run better)
- Server Name, Map Name, etc are self-explanatory. The colours in the server name don't mean anything...it's just for show.
- the "speaker/sound" symbol indicates if a server uses the in-game voice communication (you can speak into your mic and others can hear you and respond)
- the "checkmark" symbol indicates if a server is pure or not
- the "nuclear" symbol (this is Infinity Ward's brand) indicates if a server is default/ranked, or if it is running a mod/custom map which makes it unranked
- the red circle with the blue guy inside is the "Punkbuster" symbol, which indicates if Punkbuster is running on that server or not. Servers running Punkbuster are less likely to have cheaters on them.
- "ping" is roughly a measure of the time it takes for information to go from your PC to the server and back again. It depends on your internet connection and your location (distance from the server itself). The lower this number for you, the better.

If you click on the top of any of these columns, it will sort the list for you (ascending or descending).

If you choose "Filter Servers" there at the top, you can run a custom sort and only see the types of servers you want.

Well, ping is something very VERY important. It's the time in milliseconds for a packet of info to reach your PC from the server. You always want to have less then 110-120 ping to play well. Otherwise you'll have to lead the target and you'll get all sorts of lag.

As for the server things.

The colors don't mean anything, you can make your name have color and make text have color. It's just for decoration.

Ummm, I don't realy remember what some of the other stuff means, I'll try and make an SS and explain it all.
