    Umm..Yeeeah

Seriously your in a tank and theres some stupid recon boosting towards you across a bridge at Suez Canal with a car bomb, you fire a tank shell RIGHT THROUGH the front of the car from an appreciable distance away and....nuuuthing hAApens, and then he get close enough to you to bail out and BOOOM your dead. FFS. awsome. and i thought that sometimes the hit detection for shooting at infantry was bad...i guess not.:cussing:.

The only mechanised units i feel are worthwhile at all on large maps would be either A: Battlewalker or B: Gunship. But then unlike some of those guys that are really good with it that both pilot AND fire TV missles somehow (maybe they have good comps where they get 90FPS UNLIKE ME) To really get the most kills with the gunship i feel you need to be the gunner (am i wrong?) and then you can never find a good pilot so it seems the battlwalker is the way to go. Or just run around on foot supplemented with APCs and cars, which dont get blown up by tank shells unless they are stationary.:|:

Hit detection on speeding cars is atrocious. I remember driving side-by-side with a humvee and a Vodnik on Mashtuur City one time, and I could NOT hit the damn Humvee with the .50, even though we were travelling the same speed and everything. Yet one time I was able to nail an FAV going laterally full speed with an Eryx from all the way across the valley in Kubra. Go figure. :hmm:

But yeah, when you're firing at an oncoming jeep, aim low, otherwise the shot sails clean through the vehicle. This goes for tank rounds and AV missiles alike. Too many times in BF2 I'd been run over by people driving straight at me as my AT missile just passes through the vehicle leaving it unharmed. Things that are driving straight away from you, though, (fun thing to do on Wake 2007 ) are suckers for AT missiles, since they never see it coming and generally don't bother to try to swerve.

As for gunships, I love flying the gunship but I'm not 'good' enough to be able to solo TV missile. I also need a gunner to deal with the infantry scurrying around. But gunships are a lot of fun for taking out APCs because there are usually at least 3 guys in each APC, and if you strike quickly enough they won't have time to bail out or throw up the shields. Good stuff. Tanks aren't very worthwhile on many maps (IMO) because one Pilum to the back and it's toast, and you get zero warning it's going to hit you, but they're fun to pelt the middle flag on Sidi because you can zoom and hit stuff at long range. Tanks are definitely not meant to be frontline equipment in this game. APCs are good to use, but what I HATE is when the driver of my APC insists on sitting there having an EMP fight with an enemy APC. We sit there, and sit there, and sit there, and sit there, and (well you get the point by now, I'm sure), until one of them decides to say '**** it' and drive off, or something else comes along to help blow it up. Meanwhile everyone in the APC is spamming "Move it! Charge!". The only part that's fun is if you can have a couple of engineers with you that can pod out on top of the enemy APC and AV missile it. Otherwise it's just a waste of time.

Walkers are just as susceptible to Jihad...

As for Solo'ing, you don't have to have a good computer... Running on all low and getting 30 FPS I could do it. All it takes is practice. Ping also makes a bit of a difference, but not too much.

For Suez, if I'm not Gunship Whoring I am playing support. I can get 70+ Points per round by EMP'ing enemy tanks :p

I feel your pain mr OP, but that is sadly the way it is.. There is no real defense, unless you fancy bailing out and hitting the bastard with a pilum which seems to be less finniky about hitting fast moving favvies.

I tend to give up on tanking when theres a few Jihaders around and instead stand around looking would-be-roadkill only to put a pilum in their face, or LMG that oh-so-easy-to-target interior.

That way i get punish them for their honorless ways, while keeping friendly armor all that much safer.

i've seen a lot of hit detection problems with me shelling a walker from a tank. it's pretty frustrating. as for jihad jeeps, i always stick a PDS on my tank, and i will exit the vehicle if i see a suspect jeep uncomfortably close to my tank. they blow up my tank, but i don't die at least.

            Win.

I know that a pilum round can "bounce off" enemy vehicles when shooting from and angle. Don't know if there's something similar with tank shells. But it's annoying when you hit a gunship dead on with a tank shell and absolutely nothing happens. It's almost worse in BF2 tho.

well it is atleast realistic. irl a lot of shels just bounce of tanks because of their shape (around 33% of the hits explode i think).
