Weirdest CoD4 error I have ever got

Ok, I had just played CoD4 yesterday and everything worked fine.
Now today, when I went to go play it, I click the Multiplayer shortcut and the screen goes to black like it does when logging on normally, but then something weird happens. My screen stays black and the green buttom on my screen goes from the normal green when it is being used to orange meaning it has goes off, but my computer doesn't do anything like shut down, it just stays black for a small time and then my desktop makes some sounds and then it message stops up and goes "DirectX has encountered an Unrecoverable error".

WTF?! I have never ever had this happen and it is freaking me out a bit.
so if anyone has a fix for this, please help!

If the game worked yesterday, but gives an error today, something in your system has changed. You need to find that change.

Have you installed any programs between yesterday and today?

Have you tried simply restarting your PC?

I have not installed anything yesterday and no, I have not restarted my PC yet.
You think that may fix it?

Restarting or Shutting Down your PC completely is always a good idea to clear out bits of memory/data that are being held here and there and can cause errors. Do give it a try (I'd actually shut down the PC for several minutes, then start it up again).

That has happened to me. I rarely shut down my comp, I usually just put it into sleep mode. So I tried restarting it and it fixed the issue and hasnt happened since.

It's usually corrupt data i the memory. It's removed when the computer reboots because RAM is volatile.

Well, after not playing it all of yesterday and turning off my PC for the night and then taking it back on in the mouring, by my suprise it actually got fixed and now it workes again.
