crazy bad ping spikes and bad performance. HELP

I've been having this problem for a while since i had my computer fixed after some nasty bad virus that made my computer stop running properly, but it has recently gotten worse and worse.:shakehead

I will be playing on servers where i have good latency and then my ping will spike up to 500 or 600 and my vision will twitch all over the place and i cant control my soldier usefully at all, even when the ping slowly goes back down, and then even when my ping doesnt spike i still sometimes get the twitching vision and stuttery framerate.

I will also get stuttery framerate sometimes when my ping is not spiked

My comp was running pretty well even after it got fixed, but the ping spikes have started to get more frequent and have been lasting longer for some reason. REALL REALLY ANNOYING. im very unhappy.:dead:

    My comps got:

    2.66Ghz Dual core processor
    3GB RAM
    7900GS 256MB video card

i dont think its the hardware, i mean it should run butter smooth on mostly low/some medium settings. (shouldnt it?)

I have McAfee but i dont think thats doing anything to the game
I defrag my hard drive and do virus scans and clean my comp pretty often

One thing i do know the guy changed with my internet is i used to have a verizon/yahoo brower and he repaced it with internet explorer. i check my network connections and under Broadband it says disconnected but for LAN or HighSpeed internet it has a Local Area Connection 3 thats says its connected with a speed of 100mbps.

The internet connection most likely is the issue but then again it might not.

Any help would be awsome. thanks

is anyone able to help me with this? any-body?

hmm. i live in Blaine WA (right in the top west corner) and i tested Vancouver and got 747kbps up and 128pbps down. Same for Seattle. Is this bad or good?

Your computer is connected to a router/modem at 100mbps, the modem is connected to the internet at a much lower speed, this is normal.

Since your getting stuttery gameplay randomly it is likely your computer is busy doing something else whilst your playing.
Make sure you have no backround processes running, like messenger, torrents etc. When you have only the minimum number of processes running you can see if its actually 2142 causing problems.

it is enough but i dont know if you can play on big servers and titan. try a smal conquest server(e.g. 16 player) and see if you have lots of lag. and as above mentioned close all processes( taskmanager>processes kill everything with your username at the username field.(except internet and stuf)

ican play this game pretty well on anything thats 32 person or lower but then starts to get kind of bad 50 and up and then normally i just dont play titan because the bad framerate makes me look foolish.

WIth the task manager it shows that theres 36 processes going on when im not even running any programs. I looked at that one "dealing with lag" post where it brought me to that one website that said what services i could turn off or put in manual. i did that but then how do i know what processes i dont need?

Is it possible that some processes in the background would caus my ping to spike really bad like that? making it go up to 500-700?

well some virusses can do that. do you have some good antispyware(if you have a keylogger it recognizes every key you press and send it to the internet). if you dont have one then try hitmanpro. it has good and easy controls and i dont have any deals with virusses/spyware anymore. and try to run msconfig and disable everything except windows processes/services. and ofcourse antivirus/-spyware and internet controllers(the name depends on the type of internet you have.

go to start -> execute and write down msconfig.exe it is a administrator tool it works with xp and should do for other os's. have you tested any antispyware tools as a virus can leave its main goal(spreading out a lot of spyware on your pc) when it gets deleted. these will be active and most of the time not be deleted by antivirus software.

Sounds like you may have a virus running as a server on your machine and every so often it phones home.
