Looking for a space sim game

I happen to like really old skool Elite style trading / fighting space sims.

I've been playing Freelancer in recent years and am looking for something new. There's a game called Privateer but I haven't scoped it out yet.

Also X series does really strike as an interesting offer for me.

Anyone have played these? Or are there some other games I might be missing out (or up-coming ones)?

Any hints are appreciated very much.

I used to play Freelancer a lot a long way back, currently playing Eve as it has a very in-depth mining, refining and trading system, its MMO and you have to pay fee's but it is awesome!

I also deemed EVE a very good prospect but alas the monthly fees just don't cut with me.

Darkstar One I played a while back. But nothing has ever come close to Freelancer. EVE I tried for a while. Deemed WoW to be more worthy of my monthly fee.

Freespace 2:Colussus is an amazing space sim. Apparntely the source is free and there is tons of torrents of it. If you find one plz send me a message.

I've got Freespace 2. Never heard of Colossus moniker though, an add-on mod?

There's this a lot up-graded graphics mod available to Freespace 2. You are right. The source has been (and the game) is totally free. I can't remember where I DLed the ISO images.

But it's not really a space trading game although IMO one of the best games atmospherically and plot-wise I've ever played. I just love the very satisfying ending.


Back to topic: I found and installed Discovery mod for the Freelancer and it seems very good. Over 100 new ships and a lot of new worlds. Plus NPCs use nanos and batteries which makes the competition a lot better.

X3 is good although, it is very confusing(for me atleast, simple mind) but Eve is brilliant, and is worth the monthly fee, it also has a better player base than wow(they are more helpfull).

That game is epic. It's even got an off topic community that would rival this one, but a bunch of them just got banned from the forums for their shenanigans. Heh.

I've been playing Flysis for the past few days. It's highly addictive(and FREE). It's currently on closed beta, and it'll be over on 27th(i think). After that there is stats wipe, and open beta starts.
