I am goin to be getting a new pc soonm, building it myself off newegg er sumthin, but im wondering whats the cheapest kind of ram, cpu, and a video card i can get that will run cod4 say on all medium setting.and at good fps????

Well, I run an Nvidia 7900 I think it's GTX..idk..but ya. I run that, and 2 gig of DDR2 RAM, forget the brand. But I run all my settings on high, and get between 100-115 FPS average. And the vid card I have is pretty cheap to get now-a-days -
I ran on 2x 7900GTX in SLi not so long ago and they ran pretty well, even when SLi was disabled, upgraded to an 8800GTX and theres not that great a difference in CoD4. Im getting rid of the 7900 for about £65 (each) but im sure you could probably get cheaper cards than that that would run CoD4.

OK, so if those are correct, it's a difference of $55. (EDIT: www.zipzoomfly.com has lowest prices of about $205 and $175, for a min difference of $30).

Across the different settings, it's almost universally a difference of 20 fps...plus the realization that on a game like COD4 (graph on page 17), you won't top 30 fps if you're using any AA/AF. $55 for the above differences. (EDIT: $30-$45, based on new numbers)
So, that's the comparison. We'll agree to disagree, but for me, that's a big enough performance difference to be worth the money. For others, maybe not.

It does seem to be the overall cheaper card, so if someone is on a tight budget, that may be a choice.
However, there are 8800GT's for much less than $240...found one for $205: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=10007473

So the price diff vs performance is lower than in the above posts (there's a 3850 on that site for about $175, so the diff is roughly $30-$45 now).
So the lesson is: take some time to shop around folks, whatever choice you make...you may find some good bargains. :)Comment
