    Server questions

I have a good bit of extra bandwidth at work and want to set up a server.
    1. Do I have to buy and install BF2 on that server so that I can play from at home and run the server at work? I l know some software lets you run a server version for "free" on any PC.

    2. I have a server running right now CQB Arms but in testing I can get to it locally but I can not get to it via the Internet.

    3. Does BF2 support load balanced servers? and if so is there a way to link or "span" one BF2 server over two machines?
3a. Along these lines can you run a server on a machine that would not normally be good for playing? For example most of my servers have pretty crappy video cards so I am concerned that my "server" will not meet the video specs for playing the game but would run it very well due to processor, memory, and bandwidth.

    4. When setting up my server locally and for Internet play, it will not let me click the box "UseGlobalRank" any thoughts?

    Thanks
    :salute:

    1. I think all you need is the server files which you can get links from EA's BF2 site:

    server 1.41: http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/b...ther/9640.html

    2. dont know.

    3. I dont think so. BF2 doesnt even support multiple core processors.
3a. It should run ok since the dedicated server doesnt display any in-game graphics.

    Linux:
Minimum specifications for 16 players - Processor: 1.0 GHz and Memory: 256 MB RAM

Recommended specifications for 64 players - Processor: Intel Pentium IV or Athlon XP 3.0 GHz or Opteron 64-bit 1.8 GHz and Memory: 1 GB RAM

    Windows:
Minimum specifications for 16 players - Processor: 1.0 GHz and Memory: 384 MB RAM

Recommended specifications for 64 players - Processor: Intel Pentium IV or Athlon XP 3.0 GHz and Memory: 1 GB RAM

Bandwidth: 2.5 Mbit. Recomended: 5 Mbit
those are minimum specs. someone said 1-2 gig of ram should be minimum.

    4. You cant run a ranked server. Ranked servers can only be leased through EA trusted partners. see the link on EA site above. Totalgamingnetwork also leases servers.
