Aim for the head, regardless of what gun you are using.

Squads will help you gain higher points, unlock the player abilities first. After that, if you are assault, unlock one tree at a time before moving to the next one or whatever your favorite one is. Titan matches are good practice.

Play Clan Mod, it will improve your skills. yea you may get owned at first but you will dramatically improve.

Play some defence and watch the battle infront of you. Watch your team mates and watch the enemy. Pay attention to who goes where and why.

It's a mod where only 1st tier unlocks exist, so no Voss/Baur/Ganz/Rockets etc.

But it's where most pro players play.

Fixed  Seriously man, pro mod and clan mod both SUCK. Unless you are involved in a league that uses them they are both pointless. If you want to get good at 2142, play 2142. Who would have thought of that?

Both me and ezekiel are living, playing, owning proof that what you changed his statement into is false though :P and plenty of public server players who constantly hit medals play it, and I honestly believe it's helped them. There's just a band of elites who play clanmod exclusively, but just because you don't see them on the battlefield in public doesn't mean they wouldn't do well if they did (check the stats of clanbase national team members, most of them are damned impressive and that's from public server playing - whilst games are held in clanmod situation).

I was a good player before I got into clanmod, but playing against the insane skills of the players who pretty much exclusively play clanmod has made me a far better player. People on public servers are incredibly easy to kill in comparison, and up to a point, the learning curve stops because people pose less of a challenge.

Clanmod isn't pointless - it's a valuable training tool to get to full grips with your weapon and you against genuinely tough opponents, so you increase the learning curve further - you don't have to play clan matches in it to make good use of it. Not to mention the stripped down recon information (I.e, no red diamonds, IDS etc) means that it promotes actively informing your squad of enemy whereabouts - people take the vanilla recon tools for granted big time. My clan play primarily vanilla but we do make efforts to get in clanmod training where we can so our shooting is on form, and I usually play a good 3 hours of it pre-match so any opponent I face in my game just feels like an utter noob in comparison :P

the only time it lets itself down is when you get a mix of players that won't work in a squad, much the same as what happens even more often on public servers - revives get neglected (somehow I'm always the revive monkey in clanmod...) and it's just ego before gameplay. Usually ends in one team getting completely annihilated very quickly. But the flag by flag system really emphasises the importance of a good squad leader and order following - I can't see why it shouldn't be used as a training device is all. Especially when I've seen so many players improve by playing it.

To the OP : I WOULDN'T however play clanmod until I've gotten good with vanilla first. It'll be too painful to watch otherwise. Learn from the tips you get from this thread and apply it to vanilla first, once you can happily kill a good 90% of enemies you face with a good aim and shot, then give it a go.

The only reason I don't play clanmod is cause its different. I spent along time getting good at vanilla 2142, I don't want to have to re-learn the mechanics just to play on an unranked mod :p

It's not re-learning though. All your doing is shooting lol. As long as you have a good aim and shot with the rifles you should be fine, obviously if your a shotgun whore :p you will have to change lol :p

Clanmod is mustard, it's got a limited play length (I can only last an hour before I'm pulling what's left of my hair out) but Fingulfin....

Play a few rounds, then go back to vanilla. You'll notice the difference.

If you don't want to suck, a group effort will improve your situation. Shoot, defib, shoot, defib, shoot, defib, get defibbed, defib, shoot.
