Can you start the game without xfire doing it?

I get that error from time to time with xfire, close xfire and try the game again, if it loads reinstall xfire and see if it helps .

Doesn't work... I get a 'iw3mp.exe has stopped working' instead of the one that xfire shows. (wont't let me take a screenshot)

Any new software installed? Any patch updates? Anything mentioned in the event log for Windows?

Sorry but i'm completely clueless when it comes to computers.. so i'm not entirely sure what you mean. But I have installed patch 1.4 the day before and it worked fine then.

Yeah, I am getting the same problem. Do you have Realtek soundcards? I think that is the problem, I am updating my drivers for it but it might not work. I hope Activision comes out with a patch!

              Seems risky though.

That answer isnt risky, a USB mic and headset has its own audio built in, bypassing the soundcard.

Its a good way to test and see if youre problem is soundcard related.
